3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
330 mL bottle. Pours a rich mahogany with a medium tan head, lots of lacing. Great on the nose, aromas of yeast, vanilla, rum, raisin, spice and toffee. Taste is big sweet malt in the forefront. Mellows out to a creamy woody finish, not a lot in the way of hops. Thick on the palate medium carbonation and full body, lots of texture. Another good special edition from I&G, now if only I had a steak and kidney pie to wash this down with.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice caramel tasting malt with a smoky oak aftertaste. Very well balanced but a bit on the mild side for this style of beer.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 12/20
330ml bottle. Enjoyed on July 1st (Canada Day). One of the nicest colours for a beer that I've seen. Gorgeous ruby-hued brown orange beer (Lovibond 27/28). 1/2" head settles to adequate lace. Aroma is mild but can't hide the high alcohol here. Taste is quite complex, not bad but not wholly pleasant. Seems confused and unbalanced. Maple sweetness, ascorbic alcoholic flavours, malty, some bitterness, with a predominantly syrupy sweet finish. Something not quite playing nice here. Worst part is the flat carbonation. Limp palate.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
June 27 2012. 330ml bottle pours ruby in my innis & gunn tulip glass. Tan head is present only if poured aggressively fades to ring. Aroma is lighter than I&G regular offerings. Woody, earthy, slight caramel/toffee, light vanilla and fruit notes. Aroma is lighter but flavour is stronger, richer. Can taste alcohol right off the start with sweet cherry. Combination similar to a cherry whiskey. Strong woody notes add richness and toffee rum comes into play. The longer it sits the more depth it has. Seems to drink more like a glass of scotch or rum or licquor than beer. Not as much vanilla as others. Palate is heavier to medium body with only slight soft carbonation. Leaves dry slightly bitter mouthfeel. Fantastic! Best one yet!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330 ml bottle. Pours a dark clear copper color with light head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of malt and caramel with a hint of wood. Definite oakiness but not overbearing. Additional flavors of sweet toffee, roasted malts, and vanilla, just like the description. Very nice.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a rich orange with small white head. Sweet oaky, vanilla, caramel, toffee notes. Very sweet, even for I&G! My preconceptions convince me there’s maple syrup there, that’s how sweet it is (and how boringly clichéd my stereotypes are). It’s got light malts, toast, oak, vanilla, caramel in the mouth. Interesting but not brilliant.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark red colour, with a thick white head. Very Canadian looking! Smells highly of oak and dried cherries, almost in a funky, Belgian way. The taste is an oaky maltness, with a hint of sweet vanilla on the otherwise tart finish. Picked up a bottle on sale and I’m happy I did.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The pour: a warm honey brown or amber in colour with a white head that dissipates to a ring. The aroma: Quite a bit more malt notes that typical of I&G, with strong notes of toffee and caramel, some faint notes of vanilla and woodiness round out the bouquet. The taste: a medium-heavy sweetness with syrupy mouth feel. Fairly well balanced but could of had a bit more bitterness, the alcohol did help bring everything together. The verdict: overall it would be worth while to stock up on a few bottles as the flavour is distinct and the beer smooth and easy-drinking.
