COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We are pleased to present this special Innis & Gunn Oak Aged Beer bottled to celebrate Canada Day 2012.
Alongside ale malt we added Aromatic Barley Malt with imparts the beer’s rich toffee colour and satisfying maltiness. We used Goldings hops from 3 farms in East Kent to impart a delicate balancing bitterness and a fruity twist. We then slowly oak matured the beer to unlock the delicious flavours of vanilla and toffee locked inside the oak grain, only bottling it when we deemed it to have matured to perfection.

Deep dark maroon with a red tint and a foamy thin tan quick disappearing head. Smells of oak, sweet malt, earthy, dark fruits like cherry and vanilla. Stong full musky aroma. Full oily body. Taste of wood and caramel, malt, toffee with a dry bitter hop finish. Deep full cherry flavour. Noticable alcohol. Sips slowly and tastes like a good scotch. Beautiful.

Works good with the east kent goldings. This beer is fantastic. I’ve enjoyed just about everything I’ve had with the innis and gunn name and this is just about the best

330mL Bottle from Liquor Depot. 7.7% in 2012. I have been waiting on this all week. Dark crimson pour with a bubbly tan foam that dissipates rather quickly. Aroma is bold, capturing a fruity note of dried grapes, mild citrus, and a whiff of Crown Royal (Canadian Rye whiskey). Lightly carbonated. Smooth mouthfeel. Medium-full bodied, this packs a punch. Strong alcohol character balanced by the gentle bitterness of the citrusy hops. Hint of toffee and oakiness in the finish similar to other I&G brews. Absolutely superb.

330ml bottle from Warners at the Bay Bottle Shop. Strong spiced fruit aroma fills the nose. Dark brown in colour with a head that settles quickly to eave a few scattered bubbles. Full in the mouth with a rum like finish. Smooth and there is a big alcohol hit in the mouth.

Single bottle purchased from Zyn Liqour in Calgary, AB on 07/09/2012. Colour: Like the Canada flag, a distinct red but mixed with some brown. Medium-low slightly off-white creamy head. Nose: Malt shows notes of bubble gum, marzipan and flower pot. The oak and barley offer background noise reminiscent of candied barley. Taste: Medium sweet, medium-light bitter, medium sour. Passionfruit, some coconut. The oak produces melted toffee and a grainy sourness. Could be considered a touch sweet but still quite complex and well balanced.

330 ml bottle. I enjoyed the 2012 edition much more than the 2011. Reminded me more of the old Canada cask. Aroma and taste of oak, vanilla and whiskey are nicely balanced with becoming too sweet. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Mid to dark orange brown coloured beer with a weak white head. A bold woody nose, similar to that of a oak aged wine, alongside a distinctly sweet, buttery malt aroma, with the expected hints of vanilla and toffee. Dry but smooth mouthfeel. Dry, woody flavours with hazlenut, vanilla and the burnt, buttery toffee like elements from the aroma, this is accompanied by a bitter, dark fruit flavour. There is also a sweet, vegetal flavour in the finish, certainly not unpleasant, but it reminds me of a really well buttered sweet potato mash!

Dark clear ruby pour, small white head. Really nice caramel, toffee, vanilla malt aroma. The hops are quite present and add a nice zesty hoppiness in the flavour. The finishis a little strong, the alcoholis quite evident. Th mouthfeel is a little thick and the carb is low. Overall, one of their better releases.

June 27 2012. 330ml bottle pours ruby in my innis & gunn tulip glass. Tan head is present only if poured aggressively fades to ring. Aroma is lighter than I&G regular offerings. Woody, earthy, slight caramel/toffee, light vanilla and fruit notes. Aroma is lighter but flavour is stronger, richer. Can taste alcohol right off the start with sweet cherry. Combination similar to a cherry whiskey. Strong woody notes add richness and toffee rum comes into play. The longer it sits the more depth it has. Seems to drink more like a glass of scotch or rum or licquor than beer. Not as much vanilla as others. Palate is heavier to medium body with only slight soft carbonation. Leaves dry slightly bitter mouthfeel. Fantastic! Best one yet!
