3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
January 26, 2013; 7.1% abv, 650 mL, rock
Aroma of dark fruit and sweet breads are very obvious. Sharp tannin and booze as well. Pours amber will very little carbonation and little head. Light lacing. Malty character is overwhelming. Caramel and sweet breads are dominant, missing complexity of hops or booze. Carbonation doesn’t cut through the sweetness making this offering a bit cloying. Could
benefit from more alcoholic spice. Sweet malts, needs booze.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From the limited edition 650 ml. bottle. Mahogany brown-olive colored pour with a fluffy tan head that fades down fast. Aroma of sweet malts, peat moss, honey, and oak. Smooth, slick light to medium body. The taste is incredibly, over the top sweet with a honey chaser. Mild dank bitterness.

Aroma is sweet malts, honey, oak, pale vanilla and sweet fruits. Taste is sweet malts, oak, clove, lemon grass. Quite refreshing but not too complex. Appearance is a clear gold with a thin pearl head that retains fairly poorly.

Great box. Nice bottle. Disappointing beer. Looked good but overall taste was lacking. No aftertaste, which was a plus but no real zing to the beer itself. No immediate plans to revisit.

3.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma: light hay, light roasty, roasty,
Apprearance: clear, golden, minimal head,
Taste: light sweetness, lightly bitter,
Palate: light body, fizzy, long finish,
Overall: This beer is very pleasing and though it has a smidge of innis and gunn’s usual sweetness, this one seems to have more of the maltiness and the features of the wood, which was good nonetheless.

Not my style. Oak aged and too light and smooth. Brew is uniques and not really to my enjoyment.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22.3 ounce bottle into snifter, best before 2/2016. Pours crystal clear deep amber/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of caramel, toffee, toasted oak, bread, plum, apple, light vanilla, herbal, grass, and oak/yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good complexity and solid balance of bready malt, oak barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. A bit on the strong side with oak presence in the aromas. Taste of caramel, toffee, vanilla, toasted oak, bread, plum, apple, herbal, grass, light peat smoke, and oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate amount of oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, vanilla, toasted oak, bread, plum, apple, herbal, grass, light peat smoke, and oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of bready malt, oak barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; with a nice malt/barrel balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and lightly creamy/slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a very nice oak aged English strong ale style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of bready malt, oak barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
