January 26, 2013; 7.1% abv, 650 mL, rock Aroma of dark fruit and sweet breads are very obvious. Sharp tannin and booze as well. Pours amber will very little carbonation and little head. Light lacing. Malty character is overwhelming. Caramel and sweet breads are dominant, missing complexity of hops or booze. Carbonation doesn’t cut through the sweetness making this offering a bit cloying. Could benefit from more alcoholic spice. Sweet malts, needs booze.

Dark brown with a khaki head. Aroma is faint caramel and fruit. Taste is caramel with a bourbon aftertaste. As it goes down there is the tingle of alcohol.

Pours a clear amber with a very thin head. The aroma has some whiskey and a lot of sweetness. The flavor has some vanilla and wood. Full bodied with a nice after taste.

Similar to the Innis and gunn original but with a lot more sweetness. Appearance is golden/caramel. Very little carbonation. Aroma is very sweet/biscuity. Almost like a cake. Very smooth and drinkable with no bitterness at all. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours clear with no head . Little to no nose . Smoky malty flavours. Medium mouthfeel, low carbonation. Tasty and different. Interesting for a change

A little too sweet for me. Also had thin texture. No carbonation at all really low for even ale. Pours dark orange with minimal head. Taste of toffee and caramel. Not well balanced. One of rare times that i didn’t like Innis and Gunn beer.

330ml bottle. Pours a clear orange caramel with a thin, near white head. Aroma has bright notes of burnt caramel, vanilla, oak, toffee, and a bit of honeyed floral. Taste is balanced. Bread, caramel, toffee, oaky vanilla, traditional spicy/earthy hops, and that sweet floral. Medium-full body with a low-medium carbonation. Clean in the mouth with a set finish. Overall a nice variation on the I&G line. Not sure if it is better than the base beer but it is interesting.

330ml bottle drank from a Snifter glass. Not sure if its just a change of packaging or a change of beer, but mine was in a brown glass bottle with a brown/cream coloured label unlike the photograph. Also it was labelled Highland Ale rather than the Highland Cask photographed. I thought this was excellent. Amber colour with a slightly off white head the aroma was typical of an I&G beer (caramel, vanilla) but with more Scotch whisky than normal. The flavour was sweet but with added Whisky and some light hop bitterness. Very smooth on the palate with moderate carbonation and good lacing, a good consistency.

Poured from 330mL bottle. Clear copper brown with off white head. Usual I&G characteristics - vanilla, oak, toffee. Taste is almost indistinguishable from I&G Original.

Bottle, shared by Ian at Timmy’s birthday party. Pours a slightly hazy, straw color, with a big, off-white, foamy head. The nose is immediate bready malts, with a big slug of butterscotch. Subtler notes of oak, syrup, and earthiness. Very sweet and boozy, with almost no bitterness to balance. Heavy body, syrupy, smooth and creamy, and clean. This is a really nice treatment of a mediocre base beer. I love scotch, and the barrel character is very forward and pleasant to me.

From the limited edition 650 ml. bottle. Mahogany brown-olive colored pour with a fluffy tan head that fades down fast. Aroma of sweet malts, peat moss, honey, and oak. Smooth, slick light to medium body. The taste is incredibly, over the top sweet with a honey chaser. Mild dank bitterness.
