COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
2009 version brewed to a different recipe and with a higher alcohol level 7.7% vs. 6.4% of the 2006/2007 version). Included in an Innis & Gunn gift pack released to the Canadian market for fall/winter 2009. From the label: "The unique flavour of IPA originated in the 1800s during long sea journeys on the trade routes between Britain and India. Beers were transported in oak barrels containing hops, which preserved freshness, and arrived having absorbed the character of both the oak and the hops. We are delighted to present this Limited Bottling of IPA which has been oak aged with the addition of large quantities of fresh hops giving this beer a burst of orange aromas and a zesty fruity character."

Bottle: Poured a golden color ale with a small white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of fruity notes with light oak and some light skunky notes which leads me to believe they should drop the clear bottles. Taste is also dominated by light fruity notes with some sugary malt and some strange cereal notes. Body is bit light with good carbonation. Definitely a one-off and not the best one from this strange brewery.

Clear Bottle 330 ml
Appearance: pours as nice golden amber brew with rather large fie creamy , foamy crown 4-
Nose: musky nose , hint of butter cream with soft grassy aromas , bit mineral as follow up.
Flavor/Palate : mid bodied. Nutty malty frontal with raw bitterness followed by caskey oak character, light alcohol dryness at finish. Quiet sweet feel in general with bitter leafy feel at finish. More taste bitering hop than aromatic ones. Softer late finish with smooth long warmth at end.

Bottle ( 330ml ). Clear pale amber, average sticky foamy off-white head - nice small lacing. Pungent aroma, starts skunky, settles to funky/acidic grassy euro hops, dry and peaty. The taste is mostly sweet vanilla/ green oak resin, very light grassiness and a hint of cereal grain - a little too oaky. Slick, smooth mouthfeel, a touch astringent, front tongue stillness and back-palate liveliness, with a somewhat boozy, tannic finish. Interesting, not all that well blended/balanced.

Too much skunk. Everything is bang-on except the skunk. I particularly like the appearance. Its a very pretty brew.

330 ml Bottle: Part of the new I&G gift pack. Pours amber, quite carbonated, tiny flimsy head on top. Tons of skunk in the aroma, even by I&G standards with that distinctive oaky character. The remainder is made up of a candy-like toffee with orange - without the skunk this would be exceptional. The first hit on the initial sip is oak wood, bitter hops, and alcohol.. had I not read the ABV I’m sure I’d have been taken aback. As in the aroma the citrus and candy malts arrive soon after, all wrapped around a bit of a thin body. Still, there’s something about these guys that I just enjoy.. another good effort.

I tried this beer on October 21, 2009 after purchasing an Innis and Gunn gift pack from one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a golden orange with a very thin white head. The aroma was malty with some slight wood tones. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was malty with some hops a very bitter wooden aftertaste, almost leafy.

Part of the lcbo giftset. Very pale amber/ golden pour. Aroma of pungent English hops, with touches of caramel malt and some oaky vanilla. The flavor is rich bur there is the trademark innis and gunn butteriness that is mingling with the pungent hops. Finish is light on the bitterness but leave an odd grainy grassy note on my tongue.
