3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Metalchopz (1429) - Quebec, CANADA - FEB 16, 2011
Originally rated November 2009. Came in a gift pack for the Christmas season at the LCBO. Probably not the same as the limited edition IPA they made 64,000 bottles, as this one is 7.7% ABV. Close enough though. Nice pack with three of their brews and one glass. Testing this one in their glass. Pours a golden colour with a copper hue. Its head is big, creamy-bubbly white with great retention and nice rings of lace. The carbonation is very light with a few tiny bubbles here and there. The nose is pretty yeasty with notes of grass and alcohol. Beautiful creamy and smooth mouthfeel. The alcohol is also present in the taste. Mildly bitter, but not like a usual IPA (from the hop). I get a touch of green apples in the aftertaste. Some mild grain and you can almost feel the wooden barrel on your tongue in the end. Quite a complex one in the flavour department. Not a bad beer, but different from the typical IPA (and much better than the swill one).
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Davros (1024) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JAN 2, 2011
Pours amber with a small head.
Nose shows lots of vanilla, butterscotch and woody oak. Absolutely crazy. Very smooth. Not much actual hops or malt show, just a faint grassy note. Still very nice though.
Similar oaky flavours, but a little bit of sweet malt enters. Not much of an IPA.
Nice moderate carbonation.
