Opaque black - brown beer. Big fluffy pale tan head. Nose of lactose malt and spicy bubblegum. Smooth palate, airy and dry. Mild minerals. Bubblegum ester, a little spicy. Mild lactose. Trace of citrus and a whisper of dark fruits. Not really getting any whisky! Caramel. A bit dry and estery to be anything other than passable.

Bottle. Pours a near-black deep cloudy brown body with large but short-lived bubbly light beige head. Nose is dark malts, coffee, wet grass and hints of metal and chocolate. Taste is sweet chocolate, coffee, mild whisky tones, creamy licorice and hints of metal. Medium to full creamy body, soft to medium carbonation. A bit too sweet for me and the metallic tones are somewhat disturbing. Still, a pretty decent creation from Innis & Gunn.

Bottle at home. Pours a deep dark nut brown colour with a light beige medium head. Roasted and sweet aroma with rye, lactose, coffee and chcocolate truffels. Pleasant. Much of the same but here the oak is more pronouned, and with nice roasted tones in the end. Smooth and slick mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A nice roasted stout, but the whisky is not very present.

Bottle. Pours cloudy dark brown with small tan head. Dark aroma of malt, caramel and coffee beans. Sweetish flavour of malt and caramel with touches of dark chocolate and coffee. Coffeelike finish. Well-balanced and pleasant. A good’un.

Nice creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet, dark malts, caramel, chocolate, nuts, butterscotch, almond essence, hints of licorice and oak. Taste is dark malts, coffee, burnt caramel, dark sugar, grass, butterscotch, almonds, hints of oak. Medium bitterness, thin mouthfeel. Boring.

Bottle. "Best Before: March 2013", consumed and rated in July 2013 - not ideal, but it doesn’t seem to show any serious signs of age. Pours a dark ruby-brown with a finger of off-white head that quickly dissipates to a thin cap. Really pleasant aroma that is a but subdued by I&G standards - nice dark malt character with a bit of cocoa, mellow whiskey & wood, backing notes of vanilla and toffee. Flavour follows the aroma pretty closely, with the vanilla and whiskey notes becoming more prominent as it warms up, but never to the point of being cloying. Body is a titch on the thin side for a stout - feels more like a porter - but still carries the flavour well. Fairly short and moderately dry finish. Quite good!

StueyD (1159) - Heacham, Norfolk, ENGLAND - JUL 15, 2013
A dark, mahogany brown coloured beer with a weak, milky coffee coloured head. A rich dark fruity aroma, slightly smoky, woody and sweet vanilla, typical of the brewery. Dry mouthfeel. A dry, woody, smoky flavour, with a hint of vanilla, then a dark fruit flavour comes through to temper the dryness into a fairly smooth finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured a dark copper with minimal head. Aroma is more of rum than whiskey, very sweet molasses. Body is quite weak in comparison, flavour is weak and sweet, a bit buttery toffee as well. A bit of a mess.

Bottle at the Deanso’s monthly RB tasting, July 2013. Poured a deep mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is rich sweet and alcoholic. The flavour is weak bitter, oaky, a little rich and with some sweetness on the palate. The whisky isn’t overpowering. The texture is rather creamy too. Very drinkable. Not sure I could drink a lot of this stuff though,
