Bottle from Ricoh Tossco. Reflective pitch with ruby edges and a small rumpled nicotine head flattening fast. Attractive aroma of bubblegum, mauby, liquorice, Bateman’s and peat. The aroma translates directly into the flavour which is slightly warming, bubblegum fruity and hints at Black Jacks with a scraping of burnt toast. Not serious joined up beer but after a dry spell I have to admit it tastes pretty sweet, if needlessly astringent and burnt to finish. Just give me a full on Bazooka chew/root beer tooth rot attack and be done with it. Kind of pleasant.

Bottle from Beer Swap Saturday. Thanks, Chris! Pours Coca-Cola amber with a beige head. Aroma is dark malts, a touch of smoke. Flavor is sort of like Guinness with some oak and a touch of Scotch. Pretty good, actually.

Bottle from my local Tesco. Looks good. Clear dark red tinted brown with a lasting creamy beige head. Aroma is very faint, some musty roasted malt, dark fruit. Flavour has oak, butter, more like rum than whiskey, coconut butter (I’m looking at you Gingeman!) marmite. The alcohol is pretty well hidden, lacking depth despite the 7.4%. Pretty easy to drink really. Wasn’t bad really.

Not a big fan of I&G beers, bought this one when Beerdar kicked in. Distinct I&G taste from clear bottle which spoils what could be a higher rating, it’s that mettalic bananish taste that sholdn’t be there. ABV hidden well. Didn’t taste the whisky so much. OK, not one to sing and dance about.

Pours very dark brown, bordering on black. Almost zero head. Aromas of raisins, cherries, molasses and brown sugar. Very crisp mouthful for something billed as a stout. Some tastes of red fruit peels, and bitter dark chocolate. Not as sweet as it smells. Overall I liked this much better on tap, than this 330 ml bottle I am currently drinking which feels muted in comparison.

Pours a black-brown color with a nice tan head that settles off fairly quick. Subtle aroma of roast malt and wood. Flavor is smooth and roasty but clean with a rounded whiskey and wood subtlety; also there are some noticeable off banana notes that I am convinced a part of the clear-bottled habit of this brand. I would love to try this on tap (or not out of a clear bottle) to see if the flavors change. Still, a good tasting beer.

Clear 330ml bottle into a Gordon’s thistle shaped glass on 9th May 2014. Labelled as ’Irish Whiskey Finish’, sure it’s the same beer though. Looked good: black with a large and lasting tan head. I got more over roasted maltiness in the aroma and taste than any whiskey/whisky notes, Irish or not. A decent enough Stout, even if the hype and labelling suggests something more. Bitter Dark Chocolate with Coffee notes helped the enjoyment of the beer. One of I&G’s better offerings.

A different twist on a stout but I’m not sure if it fully works. Excellent opaque pour w/ a tan head that leaves a nice ring of lacing. The aroma is soft w/ the whiskey notes standing out. The taste is stout like for the first 3/4 of the beer. It’s soft on the palate until the whiskey really stands out in the finish making this a different type of stout. While I appreciate the originality, it’s not one the top stouts I’ve come across.
