4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma: Nice butterscotch accent on a whiskey basis. we also find molasses and caramel butter. Appearance: Black and opaque, generous head, creamy and long lasting. Taste is all caramel / butterscotch with an explosive whiskey finish. Chocolate is there also and we can feel the oak cask as well. Caramel is everywhere and long lasting. An excellent stout, very sweety. Very close to an imperial stout except for the weak bitterness. Une superbe bière!!!

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Bon Vivant, Edinburgh
Very dark brown, frothy tan head that dissipates to thin layer, some lacing
Aroma - whiff of light-struck on opening, soft dark caramel malts, slight medicinal phenolic note, dark sugars, creamy, hint of wood, overall soft aroma
Taste - Caramel malts, liquorice, bit medicinal / phenolic, hint of chocolate, hint of wood, alcohol quite well hidden, bitter burnt ash note at the back, bit muddled
Palate - moderate carb, thin to medium body, quite smooth. Finish as main flavour with that bitter ashy note and some lingering alcohol.
Overall - Not that bad at all - doesn’t have that over sweet vanilla malt like the other I & G beers

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Dark brown pour with red highlights and a lasting creamy tan head. Nose is roasty with lots of whiskey and lesser hints of chocolate, earth and vanilla. Flavour is also heavy on the whiskey with chocolate, vanilla, charcoal, liquorice and toffee coming through. Mouthfeel is light and very dry with lively carbonation and a lingering bittersweet, slightly boozy finish. Not too bad, the cask maturation works pretty well with the beer if not actually enhancing it. One of the better brews from I & G although I do get the feeling that the stout could probably have stood up quite nicely on it’s own.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
330ml bottle. Perfect beer for this cold and wet winters night. Thick black colour with loads of deep tan foam. Aromas of chocolate, licorice and a hint of whiskey. Strong flavour in the mouth with a creamy smooth mouthfeel and a bit of an alcohol burn in the back of the throat. Nice.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Black with off white head. Fairly low key aroma, some caramel, faint whiskey, something slightly vegetal. Taste has caramel, toffee, very little whiskey again, little cola, little coffee. Slightly sweet with a sticky finish, a tad thin. On the whole, they’ve done much much worse than this

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
330ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a large tan head which lasts well and leaves good lacing. Milk chocolate and coffee notes, combined with Irish whiskey and a hint of vanillin oak make up the aroma. A faint hint of bitter dark chocolate leads into a mild herbal hops flavour up front. Bitter cocoa then heralds a smoother blend of milk chocolate and slightly sweet Irish whiskey. Vanillin oak is the main flavour in the finish, and there is a strong aftertaste of Irish whiskey. Stout as a style seems to work well with the flavour of Irish whiskey, making for an enjoyable combination in this beer.

Bottle shared by drowland, thanks Danny! Pours brown with an off white head, the aroma has a good amount on caramel and malt, the flavor has some dark fruit in the finish with a solid caramel and malty middle, nothing special but not bad.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, found when re-arranging my beer fridge, along with a few other I&G’s that I forgot I had and a few truly heinous looking fruit beers that I will now be compelled to drink because summer is upon us. Anyway, this beer looks pretty enough, deepest copper brown, clear, with a 3mm thick light brown head. It looks really nice in my gold-rimmed Gouden Carolus chalice so I took a picture. Aroma is initially over-ripe bananas and sultanas, but with time vanilla, caramel, and soft whiskey nuances emerge. Sweet dark caramel flavour, golden raisins, vanilla, and as it really comes up in temperature a cola-like sweetness that doesn’t belong. One of I&G’s finest, enjoyable indeed, but still not spectacular.
