[330ml bottle from Beers of Europe] Pours mahogany-black with a moderate tan head and a slight fizz. Cream soda up front, then port and chocolate followed by a pleasant smokiness, roasty malts and cola. A little sourness in the finish is a concern, but the beer makes up for this with a lingering aftertaste of vanilla ice cream. As is usual with Innis & Gunn, it’s on the sweet side, which some might not like, for for me it was a great pudding/ late evening beer. Another great effort from Innis & Gunn, nice to see them varying the style a bit.

Bottled. Very dark, almost pitch black, ever so slightly translucent, with a tan head. Malts evident on the nose. Flavor is jam packed with malts, along with vanilla, fruit and chocolate notes. Very rich and sweet. Wow!

mansquito (4865) - Nueva York, New York, USA - OCT 16, 2012
New Beer Distributors, NY 330ml ($3.25): Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma is slight roasted malts, but mostly vanilla and whiskey, lots of whiskey. Taste is a bit sweet. Light bodied. Tastes mostly like whiskey aftertaste, and with a slight whiskey aftertaste. Alcohol is well-covered. This ain’t that stouty, but it is a unique little beer, which is fun to drink here and there.

Deep brown pour, not quite black with brown head. Aroma is very nutty with coffee, molasses. Medium bodied, frothy mouth feel, low carbonation. Flavours replicate the nose with some bitterness coming out on the finish along with a molasses like sweetness.

Frothmeister (693) - Ontario, CANADA - SEP 25, 2012
330ml bottle. Pours dark, dark reddish brown with a mocha coloured head. Aroma is molasses, dates, raisins, faint spearmint, (faint pink bubblegum as it warms up (huh?), as well as some Belgian notes) and some alcohol. The taste is also molasses forward, with big mineral notes, vanilla, caramel, floral notes, wood, and a pretty good amount of eucalyptus in the finish. A lot going on here. Lighter bodied, but very flavourful.
