3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Jow (1375) - New York, USA - MAR 12, 2013
Since I was unable to find any unrated Irish beers locally to serve St party’s party I grabbed a scottish beer aged in Irish whiskey cask. And since I am unable to keep beer in fridge without drinking I enjoyed one 4 days prior to party. Pours dark brown with little head that quickly disappears. Nose is light chocolate and whiskey. Tastes of light Irish whiskey and chocolate, malt, earth, and root beer. All flavors are subtle and it’s not too sweet but a touch thin

Pours a dark brown with quickly fading offwhite head. Aromas are very malty...lots of bread, rye, yeast, and some coffee. Flavours are malts, dried fruit, bread, and some peat and whiskey notes. A fine offering by innis and gunn.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Reimer96 (589) - Alberta, CANADA - MAR 9, 2013
Pours a clear black with a red tinge and a small brown ring. Aroma of roasted malts, wood, has a boozy whiskey warming and some chocolate sweetness with coffee. Taste is sweet chocolate, sharp whiskey, slight roasted malts and a nice warming on the finish. Overall it’s probably one of the best Innis beers.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 probstblueribbon (2378) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 9, 2013
330 ml bottle from LCBO (random find), served cool in a tulip glass.
App.: Deep brown-black with a fair mocha head.
Aroma: Pretty tight with an odd cooked vegetable note...not like the usual vegetal defect (not that I’ve encountered, at least), some decent chocolate and light wood once you get past all that, hints of minty herbals, a little coffee, some sweet and fruity character, alcohol, not too bad.
Palate: Medium+ body, fine, prickly effervescence.
Flav.: None of that weirdness in the nose, molasses, brown sugar, vanillin, chocolate notes, fairly woody, light minty herbals (like an Abbey Dubbel), alcohol sting; almost dry with moderately low bitterness and a boozy, sweet, woody finish.
Middle of the pack for I&G beers.
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Doghair (122) - Illinois, USA - MAR 9, 2013
Dark brown with creamy foam. Not much aroma. Mostly malt. The Irish whisky is not very evident. It’s there but subdued. Id say is a good stout but the barrel aging is a little weak.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Svesse (5197) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - MAR 9, 2013
(Bottle) Dark reddish brown colour, almost black, with frothy beige head, leaving traces of lacing. Malty nose with caramel, oak wood, liquorice, dried fruit (figs, raisins), black rye bread, vanilla and chocolate. Malty taste with notes of caramel, chocolate, sweet liquorice, raisins, treacle, vanilla, a touch of oak wood and hints of ginger in a finish with a certain spicy bitterness. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Well balanced and tasty, one of the better I&G beers I’ve had. Quite nice.
1.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20 Raistlin (57) - London, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 8, 2013
I have loved every Innis & Gunn beer i have tried, but i do not like this one and it is no suprise. Stouts are my least favourite kind of beer, never really liked any, but i had to give this beer a try. It was way too sweet for my liking, and had too much of a whiskey after taste. I also do not like whiskey lol.
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 williamstome (516) - Somerville, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 6, 2013
Deep brown, smooth foamy brown head. Roast, subtle aroma. Big tasty chocolaty cocoa flavor. Smooth, cool palate.
