Bottle from Paula. Pours dark brown with a creamy/fizzy tan head. Aroma starts chocolate. Near full bodied. Flavor is chocolate cream with some oaky irish whiskey notes. The heat is a bit forward, but not all that obnoxious. The irish subtlety is good in the finish. Nice stuff.

LCBO seasonal. A different Innis & Gunn, on the creamy side, a decent stout at that, with Baker’s chocolate and a better than average Irish whiskey and leaning on the sweet side for drinkability. Roasty aroma,

I tried this beer on May 17, 2012 after purchasing from the Queen’s Quay LCBO outlet in Topronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer pourred a blackish-brown with a sticky-off-white head. The aroma was roasted malt, weak whiskey and coffee. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with mild carbonation, slightly creamy. The flavour is roasted malt, a definite caramel tang, and a definite whiskey aftertaste.

UPDATED: MAY 29, 2012 Nice bottle and foamy pour. Light yeasty, earthy aroma. It seems more like a strong, malty brown ale than a stout. Good, juicy aroma and a good amount of bourbon and oak in the flavor, but it seems a little muddy somehow. Not bad, but not a favorite - certainly not a superior barrel-aged stout. Originally selling for $9 (US) per bottle (!), purchased on sale.

Pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma has mild whiskey...not boozy...a touch of peat, and sweet roastiness. Flavor is sweet/roasty/peaty up front with oaky whiskey towards the end. Mouthfeel is light/medium and lively with a roasty/okay whiskey finish...warms lightly.

Bottle 33cl, a dark amber beer with medium head. Nose is caramel and wood like. Aroma is on caramel and burnt caramel, sweet with wood and vanilla notes, bit too burnt and smoked like, not that exceptional.

Bottle at home. Clear dark brown with a very large brown head. Aroma maedium malty (dark roasted malts) and woody notes. Flavor medium sweet, light spicy, some alcohol from casks tasted. Medium body, a bit thin, but very nice.

onkelgobber (81) - Edinburgh, - MAY 20, 2012
Bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours dark reddish brown with a small light brown head.. Smell is sweet and malty with roasted malts, vanilla, wood and a tiny bit of whisky. Taste is sweet with malts, raisins and hints of alcohol. Mouthfeel is slightly thin and lacks the stout feeling. Finish is slightly sweet and fairly long and sticky. Not bad, but not a classic.
