We have sourced rare oloroso sherry casks to mature this limited brew. The casks started their life in Spain but were also used to mature some pretty tasty scotch whisky before they came to us. The beer is rich and spicy with lots of nutty caramel sweetness drawn from the wood

smell:sticky figs, grassy freshness fromthe hops, with some cloves and allspice
Taste:caramel sweetness and ripe red grapes, balanced out by an earthy hop bitterness
Finish: rich and long lasting
What to have with it: soft goats cheese, beef carpaccio, olives or figs
Malt: I&G ale malt, crystal malt, wheat
Hops: fuggles
Maturation: 60 days; oloroso sherry casks.

(Extra details: 200BBL beer pre-aged in unused oak casks, transferred to oloroso butts stored at william grants, vatted, cold conditioned for a few weeks then bottled)

Bottle to a glass mug. Pours a yellowish / amber color, and an off white head that dissipates quickly. Has a strong skunky smell on the nose. The flavor is quite different than the nose, with a strong malty backbone, and sweet fruit flavors. Different than my normal routine.

Tasty beer that was spoiled by some prior tastings. Specifically, barley wines that tended to lessen the experience. Nice aroma but very sweet. Smooth and worth a revisit. A good beer on a hit day.

(Bottle) Amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty nose with caramel, treacle-toffee, dried fruit, nuts, orange, a touch of vanilla, oak wood and sweet fruit. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, raisins, dried fruit, syrup, roasted nuts, hints of oak wood and vanilla. Low bitterness. Medium body, quite sweet. Tasty and interesting, more sweet fruit and sugar than malt and hops. Quite enjoyable.

Caremelized malt and vanilla, sugar. Alcohol is well-hidden. Good roundness and small bitterness.

Bottle. You can see it yourself in all of its oxidized glory. This is typical of previous I&G output, too oaky and not enough malt. The one improvement is the mild sherry character, but this is in turn marred by adding sweetness to that which is already too sweet. Slightly better than their other stuff, but still misses the mark.

500 ml bottle, sent for review Oct 2013 ("Sep2014" etched on bottle as "best by"). And yet I salted it away til now. Light amber color. Poured in a tulip, it kicks up a puffy IPA style head, fed by just a few bubbles. Some sherry scent in the bottle that wafts away once poured. Taste comes in malty and with a bit pf phenol. At 7.4% alcohol, it probably does not improve with age. Some sherry and oak if it sits on the tongue. A bit of jaggery sugar-type sweetness, and a lot more effervescence when I tilt the glass. Come to think of it, there are not too many lighter-colored beers that get the wood-aged treatment. Like all the I&G beers, it is much lighter than one would expect from a BA beer, and has its own combination of lighter mouthfeel and oak or whiskey notes.

Deep golden color with a thin white head. Sweet fruit and caramel aroma with a hint of spice. Flavor is smooth, sweet and spicy with a slightly smoky finish. Medium bodied but with a syrupy feel to it and light carbonation. I couldn’t drink this every day but it’s a nice treat now and then.

Pours copper with a small white wisp. Taste is butterscotch and caramel sweentess with grass and earthy hops. As always a little too sickly sweet but always enjoyable on the nose.

750ml bottle - Aroma - fruit forward, caramel, churned butter, a touch of wood..very strange. No noticeable sherry notes. Appearance- light golden body, clearn with a 2" white head....looks like a cream soda Mouthfeel - light bodied, medium carbonation Flavor - caramel, fruity, light wood with some corn notes and light sherry Overall - pretty blah for a Scotch Ale. Very strange beer. It looks completely different than what I was expecting. Not bad, a bit underwhelming.

Clear deep golden color with a fine off white head. Looks nice. Ok aroma. Oak, caramel and mild fruity. Fine body. Tad sweet and an ok bitterness. Oak, vanilla, deep caramel and mild fruity. Nice ale.
