""""For 30 days this honey-hued beer sleeps in hand selected oak barrels, locked inside a bonded warehouse, gradually assimilating the subtle flavours that reside in the wood. Barrels are then emptied and maturation continues for a further 47 days in a marrying tun where these natural flavours infuse and fall into perfect balance. This 77-day process is unique and produces a delicious, refreshing beer: Aromas of vanilla and toffee, hints of citrus, with a malty, lightly oaked, palate. Deftly balanced and light in texture, soothing and warming in the finish.""""

I know it’s the Scottish way but I always find I&G to be fairly sweet for my tastes. Overall this is actually pretty tasty and a little more hopping would have me rather loving it. She’s a slightly slick mouther, clean and copper with a fine lace-leaving white head. Hefty notes of herbal hops, wood, earth, vanilla, toffee. A welcome but tiny bitterness keeps this from being a cloy-fest. Still, a yummy beer from a lovely land.

Pours amber, clear, not much head. Big toffee and oak aroma with hints of vanilla. Quite nice. I’m rather gobsmacked that Aldi, of all places, sells a beer this good.

Hint of spruce, citrus, leaves, alcohol. Very tiny head, golden color. Tastes like normal lager, but still nice after taste. Nothing special here.

Innis & Gunn Original has a thin, off-white head, a clear, amber, bubbly appearance, and no lacing left behind. The aroma is of toffee, vanilla, oak, and sweet, medium-roasted barley malt. Taste is the same with very low hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Innis & Gunn Original finishes semi-wet and easy drinking. RJT

Nose is strongly vanilla, to the exclusion of other things, a little oak, slight caramel, toffee. Taste is some dry oakiness, leading to a very sweet middle and a toffee and vanilla finish with whiskey hints. The moutfheel is thin. The oak flavours in the beer are too subdued, and I suspect the use of vanilla flavourings; there is nothing of the base beer to be found. It’s a great shame, as oak aged should lead to a great beer rather than a glorified alco-pop.

In der Nase getreidig, leichte Malznoten, fruchtig. Anfang fruchtig, helles Malz. Mitte helles Malz, holzig. Schließlich vanillige Spuren, holzig, Malz. Ok.
