COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Brewed by Belhaven for Innis & Gunn
Ingredients: Golden Promise and Crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

Aroma and taste of caramel malt, vanilla and alcohol. Holy shit! This one is really nasty!

Not much nose to speak of but nice drinking overall. Slight rum flavor with a clean finish. A bit of alcohol taste as it goes down.

Draft. Brown pour with no head. Very dry flavor not sweet at all. Rum and wood like tones.

Poured into a goblet. A thin head formed, a clear copper color body. It smells like tobacco, vanilla and faint molasses. Very nice. Sweet but not malty sweet. Vanilla dominates the taste. The ale is in the background with a little, very little, bitterness coming through. Smooth and creamy with a nice bubbly texture. Medium body. Wonderful drink. The rum cask did an awesome job with the beer.

Poured from bottle. Aroma does seem like how a rum barrel would smell - alcohol, rum, vanilla. Looks much better in a glass than a bottle with mahogany color and tan head. Flavors of vanilla, bourbon, caramel, banana, oak, a bit of pepper. A trace of alcohol noticed. Well done.

Sweet taste, very light and smooth. The color is a dark amber, a little darker than their original beer. I really enjoy this one, definitely becoming one of my favorites.

UPDATED: MAR 21, 2012 330ml bottle poured into my Innis & Gunn beer glass! Small off-white head quickly disappears. Zero lace! Aroma is definitely mix of coffee and rum. Beautiful brown-red ochre colour in the glass (Lovibond 23/24). Low to medium carbonation gives good mouth feel. Taste is certainly very sweet initially of rum, butterscotch and coffee flavours. Medium to full body. Not sure about the finish - its slightly bitter in a medicinal kind of way (not a hops way).

Smells like sugar cane adn the texture is similar to a thick dark rum. There’s some of the honey sweetness of good cane here as well but the body lacks substance. Some oakiness here as well. Bottle.

On tap. Minimal head. Not noticing much of a nose. Dark sweet but not quite as cloying as molasses, good coffee flavor adds depth. very good winter type drink

Clear brown of color with a small beige head. A skunky aroma with sweets, caramel and weak spiced. A flavor of vegetables, sweets, rum, malt and caramel.
