COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Brewed by Belhaven for Innis & Gunn
Ingredients: Golden Promise and Crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

poured a nice ruby color decent foam that is gone quickly. nose is some rum and oak malts as well. Odd hop flavor up fron rum and oak with a bit of a sugary finish. cask aging is interesting but doesnt make a beer. pretty thin.

Pours dark red, clear, nicely formed beige head with fine lacing. Malty, toffee and spicy aroma. Flavor is bready and malty, with some oak overtones. Unlike some of the bourbon aged beers I have had, I am not really getting much rum flavor. Body is a little thin, very little carbonation.

SHared with Pyrozoid. CLear dark red poor with a small beige head. Aromas of rum, flat cola, star anise. Almost non existant carbonation, medium body, some traits of a flemish sour ale. Added flavors of oak or rum barrels. Not to bad.

330ml Bottle - Pours very deep ruby brown, nice off-white head that fell to a 1/2-inch line with some great lacing. That oak and rum combination hits the nose right away, but you can pull away a bit of smoke and sugary malts. A nice hit of hops off the top making way for a bit of a muted oak and rum, finishing with prune and apples, pepper and grass. Just a bit watery to be great, but I certainly enjoyed it.

Bottle 330 ml, Appearance: quiet handsome, dark brown, clear ale with good bone white large top. Aroma: citric rum zest feel with hint of oak feel , cola finish with woody feel. Flavor/Palate: medium full bodied. Front fairly muted with semi soft textures. Slight off rum like front with some of brown malt followed. Slight touch of dry alcohol at very end. For strong ale it lacked a bit of body and over all depth. Ageing in cask is not everything.

LCBO annual tradition. I liked this one too. It had a sharp and boozy cask aroma. It had a reddish tinge, good white head and lots of lace. Medium plus mouthfeel, stomach burns, and good rum dark sugar complex features. Good drinkability, more than a sipper. Nice.

Aroma is fruit and booze, clear ruby, pours a fair sized firm, long lasting toffee head. Tastes like wood and strong rose as in pink wine. Light bodied, though it feels more alcoholic then it should, somewhat harsh. Novel.
