Ingredients: Golden Promise and Crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

2013 sample bottle. Not too strong an aroma; I donít pick up anything until Iíve raised a lot of foam in the glass, then thereís a clear scent of run and a bit of brown sugar in the air. Lends a nice alcohol note to the nose as well. Body is brown, but well-filtered so thereís plenty of light behind. Big head of foam that settles quickly like a soda pop. Mouthfeel, like that of the previous I & G beer, is a bit watery at first. It takes a little while for that sensation of, maybe, a rum and water to fill in. And that rum does not let any oak sensation filter through. But again, it is itís own beer, whit itís own character.

Can beer be too complex. This one might be, the balance is a little off but still a great beer. However this for me is working well with my mustard and roast beef sandwich. Iím loathe to agree with the hype of beer labels and pairing of food with beer but the slightly off balance of acidicy and sweetness is a good palate cleanser. Nice colour amazing nose but I think someone has sneaked a tot of rum into my beer giving the slightly over complex palate and taste and maybe thatís the point. Interesting beer but not amazing. Not a good feel on the toung, too gassy and light to match the flavour.

Copper coloured with nice head. Caramel comfort in the nose with little hop. The taste is lovely vanilla, coffee liqueur. Smooth warming after dinner beer. Cheers!

330 ml bottle as part of a four bottle gift pack from the LCBO. Appearance: Pours a clear deep copper colour with a couple fingers of white head with little retention. Aroma: Vanilla, rum, bread, hints of caramel. Flavours: Vanilla, rum, yeast, biscuit. Mouthfeel: Crisp with moderate carbonation. Overall: A nice beer but very similar to all of the other Innis & Gunn offerings.

Sweet scotch ale with a hint of oak and possibly rum. The oak is subtle but detectable. quite decent.

750ml bottle - Aroma - golden raisins soaked in rum and cinnamon, slight coffee and butterscotch too...loved it! Appearance - pretty average looking, crystal clear copper body with a small white head, average retention Mouthfeel - fizzy/seltzer like upfront, with a little zing on the backend...medium bodied. Flavor - honey, oak, butterscotch, toffee, some light wood. Bordering on a dessert beer, itís tasty though. Iíd buy this again.

330 ml, flaske, 6,8 % ABV, købt i Netto, 24. oktober 2014.

12 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark brown with an amber hue and a small beige head. Nose brings out English malts, dry bready caramel, and very subtle rum notes. Flavour is along the same lines, very subtle and smooth, with notes of toffee, vanilla, cocoa and bready malts -- not really much rum, but the subtleties are really nice. This is much better than I expected. Rather quite nice really.

THOUGHTS: Big and malty like anything brewed in Scotland should be. The rum is there but fairly subdued. I was sort of hoping for a real rum bomb, but the subtle rum might even be better than what Iíd hoped for. TECHNICAL: Drank 4/6/2013. Bottle. Poured a clear, very dark red that was nearly brown in the glass with bright red and amber highlights with an average, off white head that mostly diminished and left fair to good lacing. The aroma had fairly heavy nutty, molasses and caramel malts; hints of chocolate; grape, raisin, plum, prune, apple cherry, wood, toffee, butterscotch, honey, brown sugar, maple syrup, vanilla, cola, hints of light licorice, hints of rum, hints of coconut; and light spices. The flavor, overall, was complex but subtle. The initial flavor was moderately sweet; while the finish was moderate sweet and slightly bitter with and average duration. There was caramel, molasses, maple syrup, honey, brown sugar, vanilla, wood, light rum, cola, spices, wood, raisin, apple, prune, cherry, grape, plum and slight alcohol. The medium body was a little oily with soft but very tingly carbonation and a woody, dry, lightly astringent and lightly alcoholic finish.

330m bottle, pours amber with a small white head. Aroma has toffee and caramel malt, spiced rum textures, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, light body, thin feel, average carbonation. Like all I&G beers, this has good unusual flavours with a light body, making it nice and pleasant to drink, but not offering enough backbone and fullness for me.
