We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

Pours amber-orange with a little white head. Nose is sweet and woody. Clean taste of malt and the barrel finish is prevalent. The aftertaste is short but pleasant. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

35 cl bottle. 6.8%. Dark amber to red color, big offwhite head. Fruity smell, banana upfront then winey notes. Aroma is fruity with dry cherry and rum in the finish, caramel, malts component is quite solid, not dense, a bit dusty. Wody overtones, wheat, faint bubblegum. Flattish taste, mildly sour, vague bitterness. Average carbonation, medium bodied. Dry aromatic finish. Medium complexity, peculiar aftertaste

15.11.2013. Innis & Gunn Rum Finish. Tuoksussa tammea ja mausteita, toffeeta. Maku tamminen, mausteinen, kai tässä sitä rommiakin on. Jälkimaku ainakin lämmittää. Melko hiilihappoinen, makea.

Aroma: Medium oak, medium-light vanilla, caramel. Light fruity, banana, sweet alcohol. No hops Appearance: Brilliant copper body. Thin, tan head, low retention. Flavour: Medium toasty. Medium-light caramel, smooth, alcohol, rum. Light fruity, banana, dried plums. Medium bitterness with balancing maltiness. Medium-light roasty. Mouthfeel: Medium body. Medium carbonation. Light alcohol warming, but still smooth. Overall: A good beer, but missing the extra body and maltiness of a strong ale. 330 ml bottle, poured. Thanks Andre! 23. Specialty Beer Base: 9E. Drucken på flaska. Luktar ekfat och vanilj, vilket den också smakar. Maltig, men ganska klen.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours in a lovely deep copper to mahogany color, clear with a thin layer of scum. The aroma is typical of Innis & Gunn, sweet malt and some well-rounded wooden notes. Too be honest, if this is from rum cask so may be it, but I can’t tell the difference from any of the other oak based beers they make, bar the bourbon one. Nevertheless it’s a lovely smell and the taste follows that lead. Soft texture fills the mouth with sweet sugary demarrara and malt flavors. Maybe there’s crystal malts there but the sugars are the mainplay. Great! Perhaps this is where the rum casks come into play, imparting the sweetness of the sugar canes that made dark Guyana rums. I’d like to think so. Fantastic stuff. And thank you for stopping with the clear bottles. Beer bottles should be brown.

Rubi brown colour with medium and quite long head. Great and complex aroma. Fruity notes (apple, pear) combined with woody and spicy nuances (clove). Roasty and vanilla aromas contribute to the complexity. The negative aspect of the aroma is a not very high intensity. Good sensations in nose clearly decrease when you put the beer in your mouth. Taste is really weak, watery sensation, medium body and low carbonation. After-taste is not very long nor intense. To sum up, great nose which is not supported by the mouth. A pitty
