Ingredients: Golden Promise and Crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

På flaska och släppt på 6,8%. Mörk något rödaktig med snabbt försvinnande skum. Både inslagen av rom och ekfat känns av i smaken. Dessvärre inte några framtonande inslag av öl. God men inte en hit.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours in a lovely deep copper to mahogany color, clear with a thin layer of scum. The aroma is typical of Innis & Gunn, sweet malt and some well-rounded wooden notes. Too be honest, if this is from rum cask so may be it, but I can’t tell the difference from any of the other oak based beers they make, bar the bourbon one. Nevertheless it’s a lovely smell and the taste follows that lead. Soft texture fills the mouth with sweet sugary demarrara and malt flavors. Maybe there’s crystal malts there but the sugars are the mainplay. Great! Perhaps this is where the rum casks come into play, imparting the sweetness of the sugar canes that made dark Guyana rums. I’d like to think so. Fantastic stuff. And thank you for stopping with the clear bottles. Beer bottles should be brown.

Rubi brown colour with medium and quite long head. Great and complex aroma. Fruity notes (apple, pear) combined with woody and spicy nuances (clove). Roasty and vanilla aromas contribute to the complexity. The negative aspect of the aroma is a not very high intensity. Good sensations in nose clearly decrease when you put the beer in your mouth. Taste is really weak, watery sensation, medium body and low carbonation. After-taste is not very long nor intense. To sum up, great nose which is not supported by the mouth. A pitty

Bottle. Tea-like color with very small unsteady head. Aroma of dry-fruits, whisky-like. Carboniztion is low. Taste is very mild, lightly sweetened. Strong character of the beer (6,8%) doesn’t play the main role. Finish is short and dry.
