We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

330 ml bottle. Pours a medium amber colour with an average sized beige head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, oak and rum. Flavour is sweet with caramel, malt, rum and a dry oaky finish. Medium body, oily texture and soft carbonation. Exceeded my expectations.

Chestnut brown in colour. White head hangs around for a good while. Nose is initially rum and then sugar and malt. Taste is quite rounded at first but later just sweet. Finish is sweet. Makes you want to go and have a decent rum-based drink. Maybe a mai tai?

BA transfer- Poured from 11.2 oz bottle into Innis and Gunn glass Appearance - A beautiful brown/red color. Formed a tan billowing head upon pouring which persisted quite some time. Smell - A sweet aroma followed by some of the more traditional run aromas Taste - A caramel taste meets you at the front as well as the end. A sweet vanilla and fruit persist in the middle. At the end the rum flavor comes on and lasts till the very end leaving the rest in the dust. Very tasty. Mouthfeel - A nice smooth flavor. Not as much alcohol feel as would be expected. Overall - One great beer. A great blend of sweetness with the rum flavor. One I would definitely recommend

Rated on 02-20-2012 (Bottle) The appearance of this beer is a medium sized semi-fizzy beige head, ruby transparent body, fast rising carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The aroma is malt, oak, spice, and rum. The flavor is spice, malt, rum, and has a dry finish. The mouthfeel has a warming sensation, lively and semi-syrupy. This beer is medium bodied. Overall, the ABV is present in the flavor and is not over-bearing. This beer could use a bit more flavor.

Bottle. Clear reddish-brown pour with a very small head. Sweet aromas of ripe fruit and wood; lots of banana. Taste is malty and a little sweet, brown sugar and light fruits with a lightly boozy rum character. Classic oaky smoothness of most Innis & Gunn is toned down here. Overall quite nice, but it’s also a little thin in texture while also fairly flat; I would prefer either a fuller body or a little more carbonation.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2014 Bottle. Pours dark reddy brown colour with a thin white head that holds. Medium bodied, high carbonation. Aroma is best aspiration, a sweet malt, caramel, vanilla & banana. Taste is bitter, oak, dark fruits, & sweet malty finish. Nice mouthfeel but high carbonation spoils slightly.
