Ingredients: Golden Promise and Crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

Strong malty, molasses and banana breads balanced by rum soaked raisin skins. Big fan.

Body has a nice clear amber color with lots of bubbles clinging to the glass walls. The white head disappear quickly. Nose has loads of sweet vanilla accompanied by dark syrup and coconut notes. Taste has a boozy rummy sweetness to it with a short bitter finish. Carbonation is quite high and the palate oddly thin-feeling. The alcoholic rum-flavour is a bit overpowering but the sweet bouquet is nice.

330ml bottle at home. Pours clear copper brown with decent white head that hangs around. Rum and vanilla nose, some sweet malt. Taste is a bit overwhelmed by the rum, can’t really make out the beer beneath, just dark sugars. Medium body, sweet finish. OK.

350ml bottle from Rays in Tosa. Pours a reddish brown with a pinkish-white head. Almost no lacing. Aroma has sweet malts, oak and some earth, some grape or other sweet fruit. Taste is sweet fruits, viniousness, some biscuity malts, brown sugar, possibly peat and oak. Light bodied and sweetly dry, and alcoholly. Quite lowly carbonated. Finishes sweetly oaky with a brown sugar kicker. Not sure what was expected from a rum beer, but the base beer must’ve been a scotch ale or something equally sweet, and the barrel made it more so. Not a fan.

Pours a tawny copper brown color with faint garnet at the edges, smallish off white head slowly dissipates before leaving spotty lace on the way down. Aromas of toffee, brown sugar and molasses make up the bulk of the nose. Light spice, earth, and dark fruit round out the nose. Little to no hop aroma. The flavor follows the aroma, sweet sugary malt beverage with light fruit and rum beep in the background. Little to no hop bitterness or flavor. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. Like the last one, there is nothing "wrong" with this beer, it is just really boring, and a bit too sweet for my tastes.

Lidt svag og MEGET sød ale-type. Det er ikke en du drikker mange af og den er måske mere speciel end god.

Pours a clear ruby brown color with a short-lived khaki head. Toffee, cola, and British bitter nose. A bit of a creamy texture with just a quick faint hit of carbonation. Toffee and mildly sweet cola flavors. Average.

11.2oz bottle from Dan at work. Pours a clear, brown color with a thin tan head. Aroma is fruity, rum, some light oak. Medium on the palate with fizzy carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, rum, oak, nutty, light molasses, brown sugar, with a sweet, malty finish. Flavors are a little more muted than I would prefer, but still nice.

Bottle. The nose on this is incredible. The balance of the rum flavour was not quite as good though.

330ml bottlle. A smoother, softened, rum and wood-tinted version of the original. Sweet and dessert-like.
