STRONG ALES ,ALTHOUGH NOT FOR EVERYONE, HAVE A ROBUST AND WONDERFUL COMPLEX FLAVOR. THIS DARK AMBER ALE HAS A LIGHT HEAD WITH A SWEET CANE SUGAR ALCOHOL AROMA. THE FACT THAT THIS BEER IS AGED IN RUM CASKETS IS APPARENT AND PLEASANT THE FLAVOR IS DISTINCTIVE OF RUM, SWEET CARAMEL AND ROASTED NUTS . NOT QUITE THE BEST STRONG ALE YET STILL GOOD.

bottle from Waitrose Sidmouth (08/2010). Brown colour, small head. Dry, slightly hoppy with a touch of rum. Not spectacular but interesting.

12oz bottle. clear dark amber under a medium, creamy, beige head. aroma is woody with vanilla and coconut. light body with a bit of abv showing up. flavor has coconut and wood notes. a good bit of sweetness to cut the abv and dry wood character. i think this is pretty excellent and puts the old I&G into a whole light. good work!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
A red/brwon colour with a nice, medium head. A very distinct caskflavour with vanilla, some dried fruit. A very clean nose; Not to much, not to little.
Its the same for the flavours, with a nice carbonation, alittle too short aftertaste, but a overall nice rumflavour in the back of the mouth.

The rum is very promenant but smooth throughout this beer. They found the perfect way to improve an already amazing beer. Althiugh the flavor of rum is very smooth in this beer, i would not recomend this beer if you are not a fan of rum.

Bottle. Pours a reddish brown with a beige head, darker than I remember the others from I&G. Aroma: vanilla, dried fruits, oak, surprisingly something that reminds me of lager and perhaps a hint of perfume. Taste: sweet, too sweet towards the end, vanilla, dried fruit (apricots?), fruit, and yes, perhaps also some rum. Low bitterness.

Bottle. Dark amber colour. Has a sweet thick smell that reminds of butter. Taste: Malt, Fruit, Butter, Rum. After a while some heat from the alcohol appears. Not totally my cup of tea.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: NOV 11, 2010 Originally rated March 2009. Special limited quantities of these arrived at the LCBO, and one of the employees had kept me one (thank you). Best before date of December 2009 and comes in a cardboard box with a nice classy label. Pours a red-copper colour with a decent off-white frothy head, with medium retention and lots of dirty lace. Very light carbonation with a smell of roasted malt, some fruit and some aroma of strong liquor (rum cask). Pretty light mouthfeel that is mostly watery. The taste is not as powerful as the nose. Some fruit, some mild caramel, and almost a wax aftertaste (which is not in my good books). So, well-brewed, but not liking this as much as their normal oak aged beer. RE-RATED: Comes in a three pack and glass for Christmas 2010. Better brewed, well-balanced. Nice dark fruit in the taste with the oak wood in the finish and some caramel malts. I liked this edition.

330 ml bottle @ home.
Pours a deep amber colour with an off-white lacy head. Very I&G-like on the nose; toffee and dark fruits with mild malts. Flavour of mild hops, dark fruits, toffee and pleasant rum with caramel notes. Medium bodied with a slick mouthfeel and some carbonation. A lot better than the normal Oak Aged Beer, but I still don’t like the clear bottle.
