4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Dark clear amber with a thick frothy, nice lacing, lasting tan head. Smells of strong malt, wood, alcohol, caramel, Spirit - Rum with some vanilla, dried fruits like plum and raisin and dried cherries. Medium to full smooth oily body with soft carbonation. Sweet malt that becomes so much more complex with the wood aged rum effect. Caramel, vanilla, dried fruit. Very rich. There is a light liquorice touch and some lingering roast on the finish. Wonder it were bottled conditioned would it age better.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
delicious aromas of dark dried fruit, rum raisins, dark caramels, vanilla, milk chocolate, toffee, with some buttery hints; thus expecting a silky, smooth, caramel-cool mouthfeel, the fizzy carbonation is a let-down, too fizzy for the aromas to shine again; also: quite some alcoholic heat and too much kind of an empty sweetness.

Malty almost an unsweetened root beer flavor. A bit earthy. Perhaps a hint of rum but not strong.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cool boozy grape aroma. Flavor is sweet, light, spiced rum. Not boozy at all, very mellow. The light palate is a plus.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours clear mahogany with a finger of white head. Aroma of toffee, caramel, light vanilla. Taste is malt sweet with distinct rum infusion. Quite odd, in that it tastes more like a very weak rum than a beer. Body is light and smooth with soft carbonation.

Certainly the one of the most solid I&G offerings at our local LC, a beautiful garnet-highlighted umber that sadly lacks any lasting head. More than making up for that is the wonderfully intoxicating aroma; vanilla, oak, burnt toffee, rum, raisins, cinnamon and dark fruitcake scents lead you towards a matching taste. A very smooth texture aids this well balanced beer towards extremely drinkable territory for its drowsiness inducing 6.8%. The flavour that lingers on my tongue is a fine one and reminds me that a well crafted I&G brew can really stand up tall.
