COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Originally brewed at Belhaven for Innis & Gunn. Production moved to Wellpark - date unknown.
NOTE: This is the same beer as the Oak Aged Beer Rum Finish. According to Innis & Gunn "they are the same beer, the process changed slightly so we changed the name. But the recipe is the same."

Has also been seen at 6.8% (Rum Aged)
Ingredients: Golden Promise and Crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

11.2 oz bottle - my bottle reads 6.8 ABV & rum aged. Nice appearance of clear red plum/ruby ale with a thin off white head. Layered malt goodness - fruit cake, ripe fruit, wood tannin, herbaceousness & hearty bread. A hint too sweet

Wersja 6,8%. Przyjemne. Aromat nieciekawy, ale resztą nadrabia. Cena 4,99 zł też robi swoje.

Väriltään tumma, coca-colan värinen, hyvin heikko vaahto, kupliva olut. Haju makeahko, ehkä hivenen toffeinen. Maussa hieman rommia, toffeeta, ei kuitenkaan hirveän vahva olut maultaan, vaikka prosentteja onkin. Hyvä, mutta odotuksiin nähden pettymys.

Served in a snifter from a 330ml bottle. Pours clear brown amber colour with a medium off-white head. Aroma is vanilla, wood, smoke, caramel. Taste is rum, caramel, vanilla, woody notes, bitter-sweet with slightly bitter-sweet aftertaste. Medium body with lively carbonation. Wow, so nice and unusual! Another great creation by Innis & Gunns! These guys are superb at coming up with unique beers and this one is one of them!!!

2015 BJCP Category: 33A Wood Aged Beer (base brew: 17A British Strong Ale)

AROMA: Sweet red fruits; some butterscotch essence; strong vanilla presence from the wood. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Beautiful burgundy hue; clear; CO2 visible. Large off-white foam mostly dissipates. 2/3

FLAVOR: Huge red fruit flavors, akin to fruit punch or sangria. Toffee flavor is quite prominent with butterscotch on the finish. Rum component is subtle, but noticeable and works as a nice complement to the base palette. Slightly metallic presence. 15/20

MOUTHFEEL: Body feels a little light at only medium proper. Slightly crisp, but smooth with a finish that’s probably a little too clean. No alcohol warmth. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Not quite as robust as some of the better British strong ales, though the rum component is a nice enhancement. 7/10

TOTAL SCORE: 36/50
