Ingredients: Golden Promise and Crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

Pours a clear, dark amber with a thin beige head. Aroma contains lots of rum, and that is all that is noticed initially. But then you get some chocolate and caramel undertones. Taste has a bunch of rum offerings as well. Nuts and caramel are in there also. Sweet rum aftertaste is rather mild, but it is long lasting. Fizzy carbonation, medium in body, with a slightly sticky texture. I suppose this is ok, but I really don’t like rum. If you like rum, you should enjoy this.

330 ml bottle. Pours a clear ruby reddish-copper brown-red with a white-beigish head. Aroma is woody, brown sugar, rum. Flavor is malt, caramel, grapes, toffee, brown sugar, prunes, blackberries. Finish is wood, sugar, sugar shack, spices. Lingering spiciness. Medium to full body, soft mouthfeel, average carbonation.

33cl bottle. Clear pale brown colour with a fluffy off-white head. Caramel, rum and wood in the aroma. Soft to average carbonation and medium to light body. Taste is unbalanced, with some strange notes and more sweet than bitter and a long very dry finish. Overall, I am not sure if I liked it so much. Too much rum...

The scent is almost unpleasant. The taste a little better and smoother. Very course and of course a little rum. Mediocre but drinkable.

330ml bottle. Amber brown colour, tall frothy head which quickly disappeared, leaving no lacing. Gentle aroma of rum, dark fruits, caramel and sweet malt. Gentle sweetness and a little bit of spice develops into a hint of bitterness. Light to medium palate and a suggestion of alcoholic warmth. Not overly assertive but pleasant and drinkable, nonetheless.

Incredible beer for all who prefer good rum in old friends company. Scent, taste and everything else is of rum. So sweet, so tender, so lovely and pleasant... and, yes, so mind blowing. I miss you sinfull.

Dark red brown and clear, light white head. Aroma is sweet with hints of caramel. Taste is the same as the aroma but with a touch of vanilla. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
