NOTE: This is the same beer as the Oak Aged Beer Rum Finish. According to Innis & Gunn "they are the same beer, the process changed slightly so we changed the name. But the recipe is the same."

We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

Bottle. Dark ruby colour. Sweet malty aroma. Solid malt character, with caramel sweetness and mild booziness (rum?). Hides the extra alcohol fairly well. Nice one.

Caramel, rum and dried fruits in the aroma. Dark amber with a white head.Quite sweet with a light bitterness. Medium body with a average carbonation. Overall OK, but a bit to much rum flavour for my taste (as expected).

Pours a copper, clear brown lace, with an off white head that does not hold for too long. Smell of fruits, nuts, caramel, vanilla and certainly some oak, though I canít detect the rum. A bit watery body, but good palate. Taste of woods, vanilla, some rum here, fruits. Good. Maybe not to bold for my taste, but thatís just my taste.

pours a clear medium brown with reddish hue . nice beige head that lasts a while . aroma vanilla , toffee , fruits , sawn wood . flavour starts like the aroma with a long more bitter finish. Fairly thin watery brew for 7.4% abv . no alcohol burn . not a bad beer at all . going to keep a bottle for a year or so to see if there is any change

33 cl bottle @ home. Rum Finish. Aroma of oak, spice, rum, burnt malt. Clear reddish brown with tan head. A tiny head is lasting. High rum sweetness, spicy. A sweet beer! Finish is sweet. Soapy texture. Average carbonation.

Poured from a bottle. Dark golden and clear. Small creamy head but little lacing. Strong aroma of whiskey, but the rum flavoring comes out in the palate.

Body has a nice clear amber color with lots of bubbles clinging to the glass walls. The white head disappear quickly. Nose has loads of sweet vanilla accompanied by dark syrup and coconut notes. Taste has a boozy rummy sweetness to it with a short bitter finish. Carbonation is quite high and the palate oddly thin-feeling. The alcoholic rum-flavour is a bit overpowering but the sweet bouquet is nice.

This made me want to drink a rum and coke. The rum character is not overpowering but is definitely noticeable. Colour is slightly darker than the Canada Day or regular oak aged beer. Again, finishes slightly sweet with a very malt forward mouthfeel that is quite full bodied. Very nice beer indeed.
