NOTE: This is the same beer as the Oak Aged Beer Rum Finish. According to Innis & Gunn "they are the same beer, the process changed slightly so we changed the name. But the recipe is the same."

We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

02/02/2010. 330ml bottle, courtesy of Highlandlad. Perfumy brown ale, smoky at first but becoming an intoxicating mix of alcohol and spice, with a slender grainy sweet body and a long dry (slightly green) oaky finish. I’ve had a bit of a mixed bag from these guys but this one is quite a decent step up. Cheers Highlandlad!

Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a clear dark reddish brown with a small tan head that quickly fades. Nose has lots of toffee rum, oak, banana and some dark fruits. Quite sweet cherry and caramel with some vanilla a bit of tartness as well. Medium slick mouth with soft carbonation

Bottle. Pours clear ruby amber with big short lasting head. Aroma is sweet, malts, slight raisins, subtle vanilla, toasty malts. Taste is sweet, some raisins and malty. Sugar, toasty malts, subtle oak and fudge. Creamy full body with quite carbonation. Dry finish with slight dry toast. A treat for the price!

330ml bottle labelled 6.8% ABV, pours clear mahogany with a small beige head, that dissipated quickly and left no lacing. Aroma of lightly caramel, butterscotch oak wood, vanilla, dried fruits and a hint of rum. Taste is light-medium sweet and medium bitter. Palate is medium bodied, smooth texture and average carbonation. Overall a tasty flavourful beer, quite sweet and it really does have a rum finish like the label states.

Bottle. Pours clear dark reddish brown with small non-lasting white head. Aroma is melon, peach, banana, vanilla, caramel, malt, dough and mild cheese. Hints of coffee. Taste is medium bitter and light sweet. Body is oily with lively carbonation. Finish is long, bitter and sweet, with notes of caramel, licorice, coffee, cream and brown sugar. Refreshing yet complex beer.

The body has a beautiful deep reddish amber color with good clarity. On top of this beer there is a small creamy off white head. This small covering soon fades to a thin ring of slick lacing. There is a delicate sweet grain and bready base with mellow vanilla, woody oak, and caramel. On a light thin palate I get a nice light bready and sweet grain character. Inside of it are delicate hints of the caramel and oak with notes of vanilla and spicy sweet rum. On the back end there is a light kiss of herbal hop bitterness. It is smooth lightly carbonated and watery on the tongue.
