Ingredients: Golden Promise and Crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a frothy tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma of rum, oak, caramel, and sweet fruits. Taste is caramel malts, rum, and a taste of old oak scraps. Pretty light and watery. Sticky on the palate. Really not all that much going on. Pretty one dimensional. Sweet malty finish.

Bottle. Tea-like color with very small unsteady head. Aroma of dry-fruits, whisky-like. Carboniztion is low. Taste is very mild, lightly sweetened. Strong character of the beer (6,8%) doesn’t play the main role. Finish is short and dry.

Reddish-brown pour with a beige head. Aroma is oak and rum. Taste is dry, light sweetness from the rum, and oak. Low carbonation.

Bottle from sainsburys. This is the 6.8% abv version. Thin head. Some carbonation. Dark brown colour. Sweet whisky aroma, slight whiff of bananas. Aftertaste like whisky too.

Bottle at home (as I&G Rum Finish; 6.8%). Clearish amber brown with a small slightly off-white head. Medium to full body with low carbonation. Quite sweet with some bitter tones. Caramel, rum, syrup, vanilla, oak, malts and spices. A very tasty full flavoured brew.

Copenhagen 17/1 2015. 33 cl bottle from Netto. Pours reddish light brown with quickly settling white head. Sweetish but spicy aroma. Actually notes of rum and alcohol. Medium to low carbonation provides silky mouthfeel. Taste is rather sweet and complex with notes of alcohol and rum. A rather weird mix of beer and avec.

6.8% version. Dark wood colour with a small white head leaving tendrils of lacing. Medium body, slightly oily and a nice bit of carbonation - I think the suggestions of it being watery are a bit harsh. Aroma of spice and brown bread. Tastes of malt, rum and banana. Nice.

Bottle. Pours a deep amber colour with a medium white head. Aroma of rum, treacle, toast and vanilla. Taste is sweet, and of treacle, dark fruits and vanilla. Light bodied and watery texture. A sweet, fruity finish. Nice

6.8%abv bottle from LCBO. Tastes/smells/looks a lot like IG original. If I reach for it I can find some sweet-rum notes.

Pours dark brown, the head fades to a rim ring. Smells great. Smells like rum, spice, molasses, raisins, all kinds of rich stuff. The flavor is really good; it has all of that sweet stuff from the aroma, but it’s subtler than I thought it was going to be. And there’s a warm malt. The finish is crisp. I really like this beer.

Really nice cask taste coming throught. I enjoy this more than I and G’s original. Quite good (really).
