Originally brewed at Belhaven for Innis & Gunn. Production moved to Wellpark - date unknown.
NOTE: This is the same beer as the Oak Aged Beer Rum Finish. According to Innis & Gunn "they are the same beer, the process changed slightly so we changed the name. But the recipe is the same."

Ingredients: Golden Promise and Crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

Appearance: Deeply brilliant woods – like those one finds in a centuries old gentleman’s club in the storied cobbled streets of London – cherry and mahogany. A thick tan head fades into a carefree bubbly collar bordering a thin puddle resting in the middle.
Nose: Dark fruits explode from the mahogany and cherry depths below with raisins, dates, prunes, and figs covered in sticky saucy black strap molasses. Black root and black licorice root in the raw. Plump earthen leathery spicy grapes. Cooked and cooled raw demerara sugars.
Palate: Sweet, rich, dense, mysterious, and a bit roguish. Burnt demerara sugars and unfettered black strap molasses and the finest dark aged rum one could hope to savor. Burnt brown sugar and molasses hard candies. Intriguing addition of red licorice in the back of each swallow. Swimming amidst it all are meaty raisins, figs, and dates. Eyes closed – a fine rummy dram. Eyes open – a fine Scottish pint.
Final Thoughts: Wonderful. Sweet suppable perfection in my glass. Innis & Gunn can play around with as many barrel/wood aged varieties as their heart desires. In return, I shall aspire to drink as many as possible because I can and I want to.

One of the best from I&G according to me...but that doesn’t say much. Not a big fan of their beers. But this one really has that rum finish that I suppose they were looking for. Rum and ale in aroma and taste, but maybe the rum taste is a little to clear? It feels almost like you’ve tried to make your ale stronger by pouring some rum into it.

"Better than I thought given the hot and miss nature (imho) of rum barreled beers. Really nice aroma of whiskey notes, rum, vanilla, a nice maltiness. The flavor is nice...starts out really nice, becomes a little cloying by the end. Body is nice - strong enough but not overdone. I’ll get these all again for some future mass I & G tasting.

Bottle @ Bothy Bar, Mac Donald Hotel, Kinlochleven. Amber colour, some white foam. Medium carbonation. Thin palate. Aroma of caramel with light roasted malts, vinous notes and nice rum finish. Ok beer, nothing exceptional.

The body has a beautiful deep reddish amber color with good clarity. On top of this beer there is a small creamy off white head. This small covering soon fades to a thin ring of slick lacing. There is a delicate sweet grain and bready base with mellow vanilla, woody oak, and caramel. On a light thin palate I get a nice light bready and sweet grain character. Inside of it are delicate hints of the caramel and oak with notes of vanilla and spicy sweet rum. On the back end there is a light kiss of herbal hop bitterness. It is smooth lightly carbonated and watery on the tongue.
