Ingredients: Golden Promise and Crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

Appearance: Deeply brilliant woods – like those one finds in a centuries old gentleman’s club in the storied cobbled streets of London – cherry and mahogany. A thick tan head fades into a carefree bubbly collar bordering a thin puddle resting in the middle.
Nose: Dark fruits explode from the mahogany and cherry depths below with raisins, dates, prunes, and figs covered in sticky saucy black strap molasses. Black root and black licorice root in the raw. Plump earthen leathery spicy grapes. Cooked and cooled raw demerara sugars.
Palate: Sweet, rich, dense, mysterious, and a bit roguish. Burnt demerara sugars and unfettered black strap molasses and the finest dark aged rum one could hope to savor. Burnt brown sugar and molasses hard candies. Intriguing addition of red licorice in the back of each swallow. Swimming amidst it all are meaty raisins, figs, and dates. Eyes closed – a fine rummy dram. Eyes open – a fine Scottish pint.
Final Thoughts: Wonderful. Sweet suppable perfection in my glass. Innis & Gunn can play around with as many barrel/wood aged varieties as their heart desires. In return, I shall aspire to drink as many as possible because I can and I want to.

330ml bottle pours a clear deep copper red. Really good nose, warm light oak and dark fruits. I think the oak works well but it is too sweet, maybe the oak was meant to balance the sweetness as little hop character comes through. Pretty decent but too sweet.

I’ve been avoiding these over-priced clear bottles, and now I found it on draft!. Cloudy brown, nose is lightly oaky, flavor big on rum, oak, soft malts, only enough hop for balance, no particular hop aromatics. Fairly sweet, strong. Its a bit too much rum/oak for a relatively light bodied beer.

0.33L bottle. Rum essence and caramel aroma. Clear brown color with small hat on top. Toffee, bread, wood, light whiskey, some spice flavors. Not for me.

6,8% Dark ruby amber. White head. Molasses, caramel, toffee, vanilla, corn flakes, cranberry. Powerful, slightly sweet, well structured. Medium finish. Very nice.

Not a great amber, quite boring. Pours a nice clear amber with a thin white head. Not much of any smell, a bit fruity. Taste is boring, a bit of malt and a bit of rum, with a malt liquor finish. Had in the bottle.

UPDATED: MAY 10, 2015 Lots of clear aromas. Rum twist works perfectly with beers own aroma. Smooth taste for strong beer. One if the better ones for me.

Bottle. Brownish color. Flavour of toasted oak and caramel. Flavour of caramel, some banana and toasted oak. I find the toasted oak too forward. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
