David Ashton-Hyde saw off competition from 300 other bartenders from the UK, Sweden and Canada, to win a chance to make a beer with us. Inspired by his love of Canadian and American whiskies, and a weakness for pancakes and maple syrup, David wanted to create a beer that would make a perfect after-dinner drink. Smokin’ Gunn is a rich, robust and complex smoked beer.

Rating #1054 - April 10, 2014 - Bottle from Co-op - #beerguychrisgeekbeer #week13 - 7.4% - Pours a brownish black, with a very mapley aroma. Not much smoke on the nose, a hint of oaky-toffee notes congruent with other I&G brews. Palate reveals a hint of caramel sweetness and slightly smoky edge, but not enough to even give it credit in the Smoked style. More like a faintly smoky Scotch ale. Meh.

Reimer96 (1342) - Alberta, CANADA - OCT 8, 2014
Pours a clear mahogany color with a frothy tan head that leaves some spotty lacing up the glass. Aroma of smoke, campfire, oak, caramel and faint earthy hops. Taste is campfire, smoke, caramel... Lightly burnt, raisins, light muted maple flavor that works nicely. Mouthfeel feel is light with a low carbonation... Doesn’t feel as big as the abv suggests or as the aroma gives off... However very easy to drink and quite pleasant at the abv.

Oaky scent with notes of toffee and smoke. Clear mahogany colour. Oaky front with notes of raisin and scotch; a sweet and salty finish. Light body with low carbonation. A very pleasant and interesting beer.

330 ml bottle. Clear deeper copper, tan foam settles quickly and rings. Aroma is maple toffee and faint smoke. Vanilla maple toffee pale malty taste, hardly any smoke, pretty tame. Softer than average carbonation, light-medium bodied, low hopped. LBW (Lagerboys Be Wary)

pictoman (618) - British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 12, 2014
Poured from 330mL bottle. Clear, medium chestnut brown with off-white head. Aroma has the usual I&G oak and vanilla plus just a little bit of added smoked malt. Flavour very similar, the smoke comes out more in the finish, but it seems like they were way too safe with the amount of smoke they used because it is quite weak. I’d rather just have the original.

Caramel aroma with a light bourbon scent, has the colour of good bacon lasting head, awesome smoky flavour great aftertaste of bourbon and vanilla, full bodied with a soft mellow carbonation, one of the best smoked beers I’ve had so far
