COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This limited bottling of Innis & Gunn has been finished over oak infused with Caribbean Spiced Rum. The result is absolutely delicious, bursting with the flavours of Caribbean spices along with our signature notes of vanilla, toffee and oak.

Pours from the bottle a rich orange with thick foamy head that quicly dissipates, leaving not even a hint of lacing. Aroma is heavy on caramel, oak and vanilla with a little rum, but no noticable spice. Medium body with lively carbonation. Smooth and slightly syrupy with a drier finish. Taste is sweet toffee at first, becoming oaky in the middle and finishing off with rum and spice notes. Overall, pretty good, but a tad sweet and syrupy for my taste.

Pours a transparent dark golden orange, fine white head, lots of carbonation. Aroma: Really strong notes of vanilla and toffee, hints of rum. Smells really sweet; Not spicy at all. Palate: fairly thin bodied but not watery, fizzy, syrupy, slightly dry in the finish. Taste: very sweet, gets spicier closer to the finish.

A sweetish though not cloying ale. A moderate richness in the finish from an aged anejo black rum cask. Light in the spice department its mostly the vanilla. Drinkable, significant oak mid sip.

Nov 14, 2012. 330ml bottle pours rich amber colour with small foamy head that fades quickly to ring and leaves no lacing. Aroma is fantastic! Sweet caramel malt with nuts and rum, hints of vanilla and floral. Expected the flavour to be stronger based on aroma but quite subdued. Not much spice but rich rum malt with typical Innis vanilla and toffee flavour. Palate was very smooth and like silk to drink. A tad too easy drinking and light for this style.

Metalchopz (2405) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 11, 2012
Single bottle from the LCBO. Pours a clean deep amber colour with a foamy head. No lacing is found. The nose is quite sweet with loads of toffee, and balanced by nuts, wood, rum alcohol, flowers and mild vanilla. Thankfully, the taste is not as sweet. Soft caramel malt at first, grainy in the middle and a little hop comes out in the finish. The vanilla-oak slightly comes out in the aftertaste. Always nice to see a new experiment from Innis & Gunn, but this one just misses the boat a bit (pun intended).

330 mL bottle. I admire their forays into more adventurous finishes, but I still wish they’d solid up their base beer. This one has the typical buttery vanilla notes in the nose, with hint of some underlying wonderfulness in a spicy-boozy note. Alas, it is not to be. While better than most of their offerings, this one is let down by the uninteresting base beer. The rum notes are there, the spice notes are questionable.

Smells of vanilla with some oak aromas and some loww quality rum. Im thinking probably bacardi or captain morgans casks. Pours pissy clear and rum looking. Some foamy head. A little bitterness from the oak. These beers are all marketing.

Aroma is oak wood and malty sweetness. First sip is oak sour and caramel sweet malts. Aftertaste is dextrin sugar and smooth oakiness.

Powertrip (999) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - OCT 25, 2012
Single bottle purchased from a Liquor Store at the Airport in Vancouver, BC on 10/22/2012. Colour: Dark brown with thin white lacing. Nose: Definitive oak with a nice vanilla backdrop. Sea salt air. Spice is present but not heavy. Swirling brings out cherries. Taste: Medium-high sweet, medium-light bitter, medium-light sour. Strong presence of icing sugar among a bed of spices. Floral and a bit poofy. Not really my bag.

Ok I’m going to give Innis & Gunn another chance after a few years of boycotting this crappy beer company I decided to give it another chance. Clear amber brew with a creamy white cap floating on top. Sweet bready aroma with hints of spice, and honey. What is that fruit?!?!?!?! I can’t nail it down. Oak is starting to show now when warm. Buttery oak flavour with possible raspberry, rum is coming through. Wow this is not good, not good at all. How does this brewery keep making the same crappy oak aged beer. Malts are ok quality but the oak doesn’t complement it at all it just turns in to sweet butter drink. I guess there was a spice but at this point I don’t care. I think I need to give this place another three year break.
