COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This limited bottling of Innis & Gunn has been finished over oak infused with Caribbean Spiced Rum. The result is absolutely delicious, bursting with the flavours of Caribbean spices along with our signature notes of vanilla, toffee and oak.

330ml bottle. Poured a deep red amber with very little head. Lively carbonation with sticky sides. Aroma is light, sweet fruit with some wood and vanilla. Taste is very light spice with a medium rum sweetness and the usual I&G woodsy malt, but lighter. Palate was, once again, lighter than I expected. Overall, I liked the Winter Beer better from this yearís gift pack.

Single bottle from the LCBO. Pours a clean deep amber colour with a foamy head. No lacing is found. The nose is quite sweet with loads of toffee, and balanced by nuts, wood, rum alcohol, flowers and mild vanilla. Thankfully, the taste is not as sweet. Soft caramel malt at first, grainy in the middle and a little hop comes out in the finish. The vanilla-oak slightly comes out in the aftertaste. Always nice to see a new experiment from Innis & Gunn, but this one just misses the boat a bit (pun intended).

Poured from a 330mL bottle. Clear copper colour with dissipating white head. Toffee, oak, vanilla aroma. Similar tastes with an overlay of rum. Quite light with little finish. I donít think the rum works as well as other finishes - seems gimmicky.

The beer pours a red-hued gold colour with a short-lived head which disappears in seconds. Aroma is caramel, rum, wood, and light fruits. No spiciness that I can discern. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is wood, caramel, some rum, and some metallic notes. Nothing outstanding!

Typically recognisable I&G beer. Vanilla not quite as prominent, masked by a fruity sweetness from the rum presumably. Not the best from this brewery but pleasant enough. Low carbonation and minimal head on this beer.

Bottled sample pilfered from neighbour. Pours clearing with minimal head. Toffee flavour with spicy notes. Would have this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at home. Pours light orange-brown, slightly hazy, few fingers of white head that disappears quickly, no lacing. Looks like a barley wine in the glass. Aromas of toffee, demerara sugar, caramelised apple - all fairly faint on the nose however. Taste is not nearly as sweet as youíd expect with those aroma notes. Light flavours and medium body. Itís all a bit so-so. Very drinkable, but not very noteworthy.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 9E adapted). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L4169 10:01. AROMA: semi-sweet caramelized aromas, with some roasted notes and aged rum. no hop aromas and very faint esters. some spiciness. APPEARANCE: dark amber / Brown and translucid. thin slight ivory head with low retention. TASTE: hints of aged rum as some roasted notes and sweet caramelized malt. medium-low bitterness with a semi-dry finish. PALATE: medium-low body with low carbonation. OVERALL: an interesting barrel aged scotch ale but nothing more.

In bottle; very interesting beer ... aroma of rum and spice for sure with hints of vanilla and oak. Taste was medium bodied with the sweetness at the beginning and the rum/oak notes at the end. Overall an OK beer, but Innis and Gunn make better options.
