COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This limited bottling of Innis & Gunn has been finished over oak infused with Caribbean Spiced Rum. The result is absolutely delicious, bursting with the flavours of Caribbean spices along with our signature notes of vanilla, toffee and oak.

330ml bottle as a Christmas gift:
Sweet with some butter & vanilla, some alcohol & oak. There is some alcohol from the rum & spice with various fruits too. Pleasant smelling one with some malts in the mix as well.
Medium amber with a small, bubbly white head about 1cm tall. The beer is clear as well.
Sweet malts with toffee & caramel, vanilla & butterscotch as well with plenty of alcohol infused throughout. Some oak & malts feature but the alcohol and spices seem to dominate along with a taste of diluted rum.
Smooth & warming from the spices & rum with only some grain coming through & a medium body. There is more alcohol coming through that I would have liked but the beer wasn’t a difficult one to drink.

Somewhat of a mix bag with a great mix of sweet malts, spices, vanilla and some rum but the alcohol content of the beer was all to apparent throughout and not particularly well masked. Sadly this one wasn’t one of my favourite Innis & Gunn offerings I’m afraid.

33cl bottle from Sainsburys. Deep mahogany with a fast settling beige head, aromas of sweet rum, a little wood, a little raisin. Full and malty on the tongue, then sweetening but not aggressively so, with notes of demerara, xmas cake and spice, and a warming gently bitter finish.

Bottle. Amber, off-white head. Aroma: rum raisins, pears, toffee. Taste: sweet, maybe a bit too sweet, banana, pears, rum, some kind of spice, earthy, some honey. Medium-bodied, high carbonation.

330ml bottle pours a pale amber color with a finger of white head which settles quickly leaving only traces of lacing on the glass. Aroma is caramel with some oak and a trace of rum and mild spice. Taste is a caramel sweetness with traces of oak, rum and spice with a light earthy hop bitterness. Light to medium body and light carbonation. This is an interesting ale which was enjoyable enough, but nothing special.

Pours rich bronze with a good half inch of lingering head. Aroma is quite striking: oak, vanilla, honey, toffee. Taste is pretty aggressively oaky to open. Finish moves towards a vanilla/buttery finish. Bitterness throughout. Bit thin and watery.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of joergen. Pours a clear amber with a smallish off-white head. Sweet oaky aroma. Medium body, vanilla and oak, caramel and toffee. But less sweet than your normal Innis & Gunn. 090212

Bottle at Ungstrup. Clear amber coloured with a small white head. Sweet and fruity aroma of caramel, rum and oak with notes of vanilla. Swete and fruity flavour of caramel, rum, oak and rubber with notes of liquorice. Sweet finish.

Draft at the Khyber strongly appears to be this version. Definite sugar rum elements but not convinced it is the aged version. Medium-light caramel flavors. Butterscotch. Vanilla bourbon. Cinnamon. Fresh oak. Honey tangerines. Hints of some heathery peat in the dry finish. Complex aroma but feels a bit thin.

Aroma has hints of cereal malt with a strong sweet woody backbone. Appearance is an awesome clear amber with light carbonation bubbles. No real head, though small carbonation bubbles come up to the surface frequently. I’m actually not a fan of the taste compared to the non-spiced rum cask I&G. Taste is a medium sweetness balanced with medium/heavy bitterness. Can definitely tell the spiced rum character, and it’s nice, but not amazing. Palate has a medium body, texture feels thin and oily. Carbonation is fizzy, and there is an long bitter/astringent finish. Overall, I LOVE the idea of this beer, and I’m a big fan of their normal rum cask version, but the taste just wasn’t what I was hoping for. I think personally it need much more sweetness to it.

330 mL bottle. I admire their forays into more adventurous finishes, but I still wish they’d solid up their base beer. This one has the typical buttery vanilla notes in the nose, with hint of some underlying wonderfulness in a spicy-boozy note. Alas, it is not to be. While better than most of their offerings, this one is let down by the uninteresting base beer. The rum notes are there, the spice notes are questionable.
