India Pale Ale first made its name in the 19th century. Here’s hoping our pioneering IPA can make its mark too.
Its fervent hoppy character hails from the unique addition of large quantities of hops at three separate points during brewing. The result is a beer that’s rounded yet refreshing, with delicate floral notes and oodles of zesty freshness.

Colour
Pale gold
Smell
Freshly mown grass, clean grapefruit and pine trees
Taste
Rich vanilla from the oak, with lots of zestness and a light bitterness from the hops
Finish
Full bodies, but still crisp and refreshing.

   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 6/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 14/20
NORSAND (73) - Lillestrøm, NORWAY - JUL 18, 2016
Pours medium light golden colour with a short lasting white head. Nose: Litterally toasted oak, butter, light caramel and then - and only then - some fruity, hoppy notes of pine and sweet citrus. Taste: Slightly sweet and oaky arrival, with maize and hints of burnt sugar. In the middle there is a rich and slight to medium sweet taste of caramel, lightly burnt sugar and fruity hops, supported by a rich carbonation. The caramel sweetness collides a bit with the hoppy bitterness but in general it works quite well. The exit is soft, with no particular component distinguishing itself until after a while when the bitterness outlives the other tastes. This tastes more like a (slightly sweet) barrel aged beer than like an IPA, which should be taken into consideration when pairing it with food. I’m not totally convinced that 19th century British beer barrels tasted this much like freshly toasted 1990s Californian Chardonnay oak barrels but I tend to like this beer all the same. Perhaps because it’s different.

alexmate (37) - South Yorkshire, ENGLAND - JUL 13, 2016
A really fruit and slighty sweet ale. Has the caramel sort of flavours Innis and Gunn are known for, but this is lighter than the regular version. Some apple, vanilla and citrus flavours with a hoppy finish. Good stuff.

   AROMA 5/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 5/10   PALATE 2/5   OVERALL 9/20
Bierdimpfe (208) - Quebec, CANADA - JUL 9, 2016
Slightly veiled dark straw color with powerful activity. Creamy and frothy white 2 finger head, lasting around 10 minutes, with very good legs. Aromas of toffee, sweet grains, faint floral and metal. Flavors of roasted grains, a hint of corn, lemon, floral and herbal spices. High bitterness ans slightly syrupy. Faint bread feel but nice crispiness. Smooth slick medium body with perfect amount of carbonation. Light and short finish, ending with a bready roasted malt feel and some sweet grains on the tongue. Overall below average quality for this craft, offering faint flavors, weak hops, and no oak presence. Good freshness and well balanced sharpness and sugars, but missing the complexion and quality from other Innis & Gunn beers.

SvanteL (246) - SWEDEN - MAY 17, 2016
Guldgul med litet vitt skum. Söt doft med aprikos och mango men även lite gräs och örter. Även smaken är rätt söt med viss fruktighet och lite vanilj och trä, en skaplig beska och sträv träsmak balanserar upp på slutet.
