4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 gilvanblight (570) - Windsor, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 26, 2010
Nice dark reddish pour with a light tan head. Malt, caramel yeast and bread in the scent. Very nice taste compared to other I&G beers. Very nice indeed. Nuts and malts mixed with a very strong alcohol overtone. Personally I like ’boozy beers’ and this definitely fits that descriptor. Boozyness adds a nice warming touch. This would be a better Winter or Fall beer then end of summer, I may have to look for it later in the year. Very clean finish. Best beer I have had in quite some time, a very pleasant surprise.

Tastes very strongly of hops, but still manages to be very very smooth at the same time. Highly recommended :).
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 DenisLD (87) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 10, 2010
Dark reddish-brown colour to it, clear and not very carbonated. The beige head is quite rich and sticks around for a while.
Caramel, chocolate, vanilla, and some dark fruit notes on the nose. Reminds me of both the original Innis & Gunn and a good milk stout. Barely any hints of alcohol.
The first sip starts out sweet, with a strong vanilla-like oakiness, a good toffee backbone, and some hints of chocolate and even roasted coffee beans. Some hints of prunes or cherries. The finish has got some mild bitterness from the roasted malts.
Medium-to-full body to it. Very smooth and gentle on the palate, though a bit syrupy. Almost still. The alcohol is pretty well-masked. A slight warming sensation arises after some time.
Quite drinkable, especially if you regard this solely as a strong ale. The one bottle I had went down extremely easily.
Overall, this is indeed an exceptionally smooth and delightful strong ale, but I reckon the Original is still better.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Powertrip (845) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 12, 2009
Very, very rich red colour. Extremely nice looking. Nose has cocao beans, asparagus, sprite. Delicate waves of chocolate pour out into the mouth. Fresh peruvian coffee beans and foothills honey ever so delicately hide in the waves. Some light salt and fresh earth settle in the mid-palate. The finish shows peanuts, rum and fading chocolate again. This is one complicated but terrificaly balanced beer. Well done!

Loads of peat and scotch smokiness in the aroma with some fruit and touches of oak snd vanilla. Flavor is more peat, ripefruit, smoke, and vanilla oak. Suet smooth and complex and very easy drinking. Easily the best innis and gunn beer I’ve had.

Flavor: Apparent alcohol, sherry? Bitter finish. Good stuff!

Bottle. Found in the back of my stash, best before date is Dec/10, so likely at least 2 years old. Still in pretty good shape, although I expect some of the sweetness has dropped out, as it’s a bit more subdued than I’d expect from an I&G beer of this style and strength. Colour is dark ruby brown; aroma is dark caramel, a bit of oak, a hint of cocoa; flavour follows, with the addition of some dried dark fruit notes in the middle; mouthfeel is soft and smooth. Very nice & elegant, a pleasure to drink.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2009 [330ml bottle, gift from Jim - cheers mate!] Attractive woody brown with a moderate creamy head. Rich oaky, vanilla flavour with some plum sourness behind. Very smooth and comforting. Another great special edition from I&G!

Bottle. Dark brown beer with a fairly strong head. The aroma is malty and roasted, and the flavour is very bitter and roasted with a caramel finish. Overall a very nice strong beer.
