3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 TheRatKing (53) - Alberta, CANADA - FEB 10, 2013
Bottle into my traditional Tulip. Nice black ruby in colour, frothy tan head with good lacing. Aroma is quite nice; on the mild side, great sweetness, toasted caramel, vanilla. Mouthfeel is slightly oily, in a pleasant fashion, though very little in the way of carbonation. Flavours are a bit subdued; coffee and caramel, gentle sweetness balanced with good bitterness of oak. I have had better winter ales, but this is certainly one I’d not hesitate to have again.

Draft at Fermentation. Clear light brown pour with a small white head. Aroma is oaky, banana, caramel malts and molasses. Bland flavor with all the above mentioned descriptors. Medium light bodied with moderat carbonation.

Pours a clear caramel brown with a quick dissipating white head. Aroma is butterscotch and dried fruits. Flavour is light caramel with predominant fruity notes. The finish is a burnt caramel like sweetness. Not great for me.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 stantheman (377) - British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 4, 2013
Bottle from Liquor Barn in North Burnaby. A dark reddish amber with a bit of head. Sweet caramel on the nose. The oak is there on the tastebuds for sure, along with caramel and a bit of fruit. Very enjoyable, but not great. 3.4.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Lagerboy (705) - British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 30, 2013
Clear deep copper, foamy tan head fades quickly. Rich sweet malt aroma and taste, toffee, vanilla, and too much molasses. Softly carbed, medium bodied, low hopped. Silky, oaky thick with a dry burnt finish. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

Bottle from Legacy Liquor Store, Vancouver Beautiful dark mahogany color with small sized frothy head, short lived. Very light aroma of caramel. It has some caramel flavor, hints of mild chocolate, but the body is a bit too dry and thin, and there are traces of DMS; ordinary bitterness. Simple.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 WheatKing (744) - Oak Bay, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 25, 2013
Though I think marketing screwed up with the name... calling it a style which it’s clearly not makes the brewers look like they don’t know what they’re doing, when they obviously do... I still thought this was a good beer. Vanilla, toffee, oak, a bit of spiciness. Another good dessert beer from Innis and Gunn.

pours clear brown with a small beige head, little retention. some coffee with woody notes, caramel-toffee, some maple, booze, warming, grassy, soft carbonation, light body, peppery-grassy finish. far from a porter. still, not a drain pour.
