3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 DuffMan (5190) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 30, 2012
Bottle. I’m not going to comment on the colour of a beer that comes in a clear bottle. The profile of this brew is typical I&G in that it bears a heavy load of new oak character, with a relative paucity of supporting malt structure. However, the malts that are here marry nicely to the new oak; I just wish the ratio was reversed (more malt, less oak). Same old story I guess.

Comes in their "Connoisseur’s Oak Collection 2012" at the LCBO with one of their glasses. Written "Carefully matured for 39 days prior to release" on bottom-front label. Pours a clean dark copper colour with a beige head, average retention and a little lacing. Aromas of bananas, prunes, dates at first, and then some light butterscotch, vanilla, nuts and alcohol. The taste is much milder though. Kind of dry from the hop, with flavours of vanilla, dark fruits and sugars. Too bad this one did not taste as good and powerful as the nose. Seems like a watered-down Imperial Porter.
