Dark clear mahogany amber, strong fluffy head. Clean toasty cereal aroma. Almond, bittersweet chocolate and a little burnt/stale grain flavor. Very good, I’m liking these beers a lot.

Pours a transparent copper amber with a frothy, spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet toasty dark caramel malt with some bready yeasty notes. Body starts with good fullness and sweet caramely malty notes with a touch of milk chocolate and doughy yeast toward a smooth, bittersweet finish. A true to style and pretty enjoyable doppelbock, but could have a little less bitterness.

pours a dark copper with a large tan head, good lacing.
smell of malt, caramel, touch of cocoa.
taste is of caramel, toasted malt, nuts, some spice, some yeast, touch of chocolate, a little sweetness from brown sugar.

From Liquid Solutions. 500 ml. swingtop as Doppel Bock Extra. Dark amber color with a substantial beige head. Bready caramel aroma backed by some fruity hop. Medium to full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is roasted malt with some herby hop. Finishes a bit sweet, but the effect is almost a balance. As time passes, darker fruit notes pop up.

Dark amber with a tall khaki head. Sweet caramel aroma, fig and notes of sweet apple. Sweeter palate, a chewy caramel start, hops give it a bit of balance, but it stays on the sweet side into the finish. Finish has a soft molasses taste to it.

Pours a rich amber with a small head and a sweet, raisin aroma. Tastes like watered-down barleywine... hmmmm. Thin body, very low in carbonation. It has a nice finish...? I want to say something nice about it. It wasn’t unpleasant.

Marzipan sweetness, lavender and pastry dough in the sweet, malt forward aroma. Clear dark brown body is topped by a low cover of off white head. Very sweet flavour is nutty and pastry like in character. A hint of alcohol occasionally during the tasting. Medium light body is somewhat watery in texture due to fairly low carbonation. Bottle (BB 07.02.08) sampled at Oakes’ Xmas tasting 2007.

Bottle (kindly delivered by joss!): deep amber coloured, slightly lacing beige head, nutty, sugary nose with a touch of roasted malt and alcohol; solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium to full bodied; chocolatey-bitter and dark sweet-malty finish. O.K., quite well made.......

(33cl bottle) Clear, dark brown colour with a mid-sized, non-persistent beige foamy head. Sweet, slightly sugary toast-malty and (wal-)nutty nose with caramel and light fruity (prunes) notes. Sweet and sugary flavour, full bodied with an almost crispy carbonation. Toast-malty and nutty taste with caramel and traces of dried plums; sweet and roasty malty finish with notes of herbal hops and an almost non-detectable alcohol.
