Pours a dark mahogany color with a large tan head that fades to ample lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruit with a bit of chocolate in the background. taste of Roasted malt, dark fruit, some chocolate and bit of spice. Easy bitterness and a dry finish. Medium body, with a gritty malt texture with a bit of character. Nice beer for the style.

500 ml bottle. BB 04/09/13. From bierundbier.de.
Dark reddish brown colour with an average sized frothy tan head. Malt, dry grains, mild liquorice and mild hops in the aroma. The flavour is also quite nice. Dry grainy maltiness, liquorice, saltiness and mild grassy hops. Balanced and tasty.

Appearance: dark mahogany, with garnet highlights; respectably frothy. Aroma: dark, bready malts with a hint of fruit, chocolate, and smoke. Taste: roasty, slightly nutty and sweet, with a bit of coffee, dark chocolate, and leather. Finish: earthy hops balance slightly sweet malts for a mellow, smooth finish. Notes: Very decent schwarzbier. Smooth and drinkable palate, although the flavors and aroma are on the lighter side of what I look for in the style.

Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is a nice earthy dark malt. Flavor is some dark chewy malts with a little black licorice showing up after the swallow. Don’t know how old this is but it’s held up with a decent flavor and body.

Tap at CK. Big foam atop clear lighter ruby. Nose is sticky sweet cherries, honey, savory smoke. Taste is thin, minerally, clean. Very light and refreshing. Lemon tea. Palate is fluffy, a bit bland, almost like diet soda. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Swing top bottle from Beer Heaven, Philadelphia, PA. Used a lager glass. Dark brown color with ruby highlights. Aroma’s malt, caramel and a touch of chocolate. Taste has lots of roasted grain, coffee notes and mild chocolate malt with a European hop. The hop gives the sweet / malty flavors nice balance. Lighter in body. This isn’t anywhere near the best I’ve had in style but it still was nice to drink.
