On draft for FBG Fest 2012. Pours a deep amber color with a white head. Nose is big malt with hints of caramel and hop bitterness. Significant malt presence and some light citrus notes balanced with the rest of this beast. Enjoyable beer.

Pours deep amber with a tan head. Aroma is citrus hops. Taste is citrus and bitter hops with a small malt backbone. Palate is thin and a bit to zippy for my taste.

Draft at brewer. ABV 7.1% An amber beer with a tiny tan head. Scent is citrus hoppy. Great bready bitter taste. A really good hoppy amber.

Tap at the brewery in Jax. Poured a hazy, lighter mahogany, moving to reddish amber or brown in the glass. Spotty tan lace is left from what was a very poor head to begin with. Aroma is quite good: lots of fruity hops, light smoke, big caramel. Taste is nutter bitter, lots of toast, nice caramel malt backing. As I go through the pint I realize that I have tasted something like this before. OVALTINE!!!! Really has that sweet, chocolate malt ball flavor of Ovaltine. This one actually has some body and sweetness to back up the 3C hops. Still, there is an odd, spritzy, seltzer palate. Dry mouthfeel.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2011 Pint at the brewery, second beer I tried at their grand opening party 11/20/2010. This was an excellent red ale. Pour was dark red amber with a medium white head, aroma of sweet malts, caramel and spicy hops. Beautiful and delicious. This beer was also a hop lover’s delight. Medium to full body. Flavors of sweet malts, caramel, and loads of hops. Full, robust flavor was awesome for a red ale. Don’t know what the ABV was, its not listed on their web site and I didn’t see it posted or listed in any of their materials at the brewery, but it felt like it had some horsepower. Best red ale I ever had. Update after several more rounds. . . 12/12/2010 .. Abv was 7.5% per bartender at the taproom. Sadly, they were out of the Red tonight. Looking forward to a new batch, but I heard a nasty rumor they were considering taming it down to make it more "sessionable". We’ll see.. If they do, I expect to drop the rating to reflect the newer lamer beer. .. .. 1/8/2011 5 Gallon keg at the CASK Brewclub Banquet. This latest batch close to the first and almost as excellent, tamed down to 7.1 from the original 7.5% abv.
