3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 GT2 (3970) - USA - NOV 28, 2011
Tap at Intuition and later lots of pours from a growler. Far and away the best beer Intuition has made to date save for their Anniversary IPA, Underdark is essentially bourbon barrel King Street Stout. The pour is deep cola looking black with a healthy, creamy tan head. Nice swathes of lace. Nose is fruity berries, lacto sugar, milk chocolate. Needs to warm up a bit. Taste is very silky, lots of rich bourbon and chocolate ganache. No booziness or oak tannins. Spent just the right amount of time in the barrel. Rich, beautiful, fuller body. Great stuff. I recommended this one to a two different people who walked into the brewery taproom and both said it was the best beer they had ever had in their life. Well, it’s certainly the best beer ever made in Jacksonville, FL so kudos to Ben et al for the masterpiece.

On draft at Green Room. I was very happy to see this one still around! Pours a dark stout brown with a tan head. Nose is bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, booze, and spices. Flavor is similar with chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, and coffee, with the spices somewhat lessened in the flavor. Nice barrel flavor to this one without knocking me off of my chair. Medium in body and delicious all over the place.

Pours dark brown with thin tan head, good retention on the lacing. Nose is bourbon, chocolate, and roasty. Taste is good bit of bourbon, sweet dark fruits, chocolate, and roastiness. Palate is a little thin, but this is an amazing beer otherwise.

Growler shared by Tim and Rachel up @ Proof. Blackish pour with thin light brown head. Roasty milk chocolate aroma. Taste is cocoa with light bourbon vibe (a good thing for me). Nice thin to med texture. Finishes tinny and bitter. Good.

12/7/11. Growler thanks to Tim! Black pour, maybe dark brown under light, under a small tan head that sticks. Rich aroma of milk chocolate and a touch of coffee with alcohol, a bit of bourbon, and cinnamon/spice of some sort. Slightly sour flavor at first with lingering chocolate and coffee. Time shows milk chocolate and a hint of barrel character, but it’s subtle. Not bad!
