COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
Independence is a classic, full bodied and malty beer with subtle hints of mixed fruits and punches of spice. A perfect balance of Pilgrim and Saaz hops delivers a high quality, nicely rounded ale, with earthy and slightly spicy notes.

A Mes rate: Cask at Baker St ’Spoons. Light copper colour with a slight white head and lace. Slightly malty in the nose but pretty bland otherwise. Nutty flavour with plenty of malt. Slight soapy note but it doesn’t spoil it too much. Dusty, prickly finish. Drinks above its strength but it’s not great.

In tap at the Queen’s Arms. Pours dark amber with a proportionate head. Nose of raisins, apricots with the toffee and expected biscuit crunch at the end. Taste of more apricots and toffee. Palate medium with a fairly balanced finish. Overall, liked it enough to take another.

Cask at the Standing Order (JDW), Edinburgh, Scotland.
Clear golden amber colour with tiny frothy off-white head. Mild malty aroma. Malt and mild hops in flavour. Watery. Disappointment from Inveralmond.

First tasted this in Gabriels, Paisley in April 2000. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear pale garnet in colour with a thin white creamy head. Faint dusty hop flowers present in the short aroma. Thin resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a digestive biscuit base with dry currants and red liquorice present. Slight metallic tang in the short bitter aftertaste. Finish has a slight malt edge with dry redcurrant fruit notes in the palate. An ok session bitter.

On cask at The Links. Pours a blonde colour with a thick white head. Aroma of caramel, yeast, barley and biscuity malt. Flavours of biscuity malt and Weetabix. Quite malty overall with a creamy mouth-feel and a moderate CO2 prickle. The finish is grassy and yeasty. OK but a little too highly carbonated for my tastes.

On cask at The Plough, Forfar. Pours amber with a white head. A malty beer with hints of dark fruit, well hopped and a decent drink.

Cask @ The Rock. Amber brown colour, not much head. Mild fruity aroma. Very sour fruity vegetable flavour. Sour aftertaste. A bad bitter.

Warning! Early amateur rating! Draft at the Brew Wharf mini beer festival. Complex beer. Fruity and malty notes. Quite a lot going on but mild.

Cask at the Bon Accord, Glasgow, via hanpump through sparkler, on 22 April 2010. Amber with thick lasting and lacing creamy white head. Malty without being excessively sweet. Pungent earthy aroma and notes of berry fruit. Malt returns in the finish on a smooth creamy mouthfeel that encourages fast drinking.

Cask, tent, Hereford. Good condition; bright copper with an insistent cream head. Ozone and raisin aroma. That mysterious chewy mineral scottish thing; sultanas, Horlicks rolled off slate, hints of orange and cherry, oaty soft afters. Quality.

Cask-conditioned at Blackfriars, Glasgow 18/06/10. Amber coloured with a slight white head. Sweet, caramel aroma with some summer fruits. Flavour was similarly sweet and malty, with a touch of citrus hop, mineral edge and moderately bitter finish. Ok.
