COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Unfiltered. Bottle: Filtered.
A dark beer with a well balanced sweetness, malt and chocolate tones. Challenger, Fuggles and Cascade hops produce a rich and spicy aroma with a balanced bitterness and full-bodied flavour.

Cask at Cloisters. Brown, dark-red, creamy tan head. Red fruit present on the nose, maybe redcurrant, with a touch of walnut in there. Flavours as well of red fruit, with vanilla and more nuttiness, maybe more pistachio. Nice.

First tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in April 1999. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear ruby in colour with a thick creamy off white head. Dusty notes of drinking chocolate powder and roast grain in the short aroma. Creamy texture in the mouthfeel and good lacing. Mixed malt complex gives a robust maltloaf base with syrupy raisins, maple syrup and stale chocolate. Spicy hop resins impart a soft aftertaste which is short lived. Finish is very malty with vinous fruit evident. An excellent Scottish version of an ESB. Highly recommended.

500 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, lasting, ivory head, with some lacing, over a clear, amber (SRM 8) body.....nose is cereal, light hop spice, hint of honey....taste is cereal, light toffee/caramel, hint of honey, finishing with a bitter hop bite....mouth feel medium, carbonation adds a pleasant foamy sensation. This is nicely balanced, easy drinking beer which meets the style quite well. BJCP 7/3/13/4/7

From bottle. Color dark copper. Clear. Light head which disappears fairly quickly. Bitterness dominates the taste, counterbalanced by a hint of citrus and light sweetness. The kind of dark beer which instantly takes me, mentally, to an English village pub (I know - it should be Scottish).

On tap@Roscoe Head (Liverpool). Dark amber with a white creamy head. Malty aroma, starts sweet and ends dry and bitter. Well balanced, but not my cup of tea.

Bottle. Dark amber with a white head that fades to sad little fluffy puddles. Hops, malt and coffee aroma. Malt and hops in the flavour with a mild bitter finish. A well put together beer.

Bottle pours an amber color with almost no head. Scent is sweet malt. Taste is the same with some citrus notes. Enjoyed this one.

Bottle. Pours dark amber with a white head. Mild hops on the nose with a nice malt presence too. Tastes pretty good, mildly hoppy, mildly bitter. . A pretty satisfying package.
