Cask: Unfiltered. Bottle: Filtered.
A dark beer with a well balanced sweetness, malt and chocolate tones. Challenger, Fuggles and Cascade hops produce a rich and spicy aroma with a balanced bitterness and full-bodied flavour.

Dark with a very pleasant dry taste.More complex than you think upon first tasting it with a range of tastes starting with slightly roasted coffee and finishing up with a bitterness that lingers in your mouth.Well worth trying.

Bottled: Amber coloured. Clear. Small beige head. Malty, light vinous and chocolatish aroma. Pleasant and discrete. Chocolate, hops and sweetness in the flavour. Has a nice smooth bitterness in the end. Good one.

Red-brown with thin beige head. Roasted malty aroma. Dry flavour. Unfortunately my notes are a bit short on this beer. I will re-rate when I find it next time.

Bottled, Pasteurised. Dark brown with malty thin head. This is a sweet, nutty, dry, even chalky brown ale, almost a stong mild though with more body. Highly drinkable with a hoppy dry finish.

An amber beer with no head. The aroma is sweet and malty. The flavor is sweet, malty, and sligtly lemony, from a good malt blend.

UPDATED: NOV 26, 2009 Sept, 2003 Bottle. Very nutty, roasty, dry and delicious with a smoothly dry bitter finish that goes on for ever leaving the mouth parched and wanting more. There is a gentle fruit present, but it’s the roasted barley flavours that dominate, followed by bitter hops. I found this to be a very robust and hugely enjoyable beer, only slightly let down by the parched mouth feeling at the end. [3.5]
Jan, 2006 Cask - 2 Baker St, Stirling. Earthy, foxy aroma. Some chocolate notes in a malty ale. Not in good condition. Default score.
Nov, 2009 Cask - JDW, Rochester. A decent best bitter straddling quite well the region between session and premium bitter. Quite clean malt - well hop soaked. A bit dark for my taste. [3.0]

Bottled.Deep crimson brown lacy white head. Deep roasted malt aroma providing a full and solid representation of the beer from the north. Rich, full palate that charmed me for ages.

Dark amber with a nut-coloured head. Roasty aroma with dark malt. Taste of a lot of dark malt with hints of nuts, caramel, toffee and cacao. Weak hints of hops. Very long and smooth finish.

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2006 Loaded with malt, this beer introduces itself with a slight roasty aroma and a notable hoppiness. Flavour takes you in with dark crystal malt, sweet rich roasted malt flavours, toffee, coffee, chocolate and caramel. Great full, rich and fresh maltiness throughout. Fittingly, thick, smooth, velvety finish.
