A dark beer with a well balanced sweetness, malt and chocolate tones. Challenger, Fuggles and Cascade hops produce a rich and spicy aroma with a balanced bitterness and full-bodied flavour.

Clean honest ale with a light bite. Medium bodied. Hoppy, hints of chocolate. Ruby red and rich. Thin head. Slightly fruity hoppy aroma. Well deserving of its many awards

23rd August 2012: hand-pulled pint in my local Wetherspoons into a UK sleeve. Dark mahogany body with an off-white head: the nose a nutty, semi-sweet malty molasses mix. The taste was also dominated by the malts: chocolate and toffee being the most flavoursome, a drier, bitterness arrives later with the hops asserting themselves once the initial maltiness fades. Ok body wise and worth trying if you come across it.

ALLOVATE (2142) - Butler, AUSTRALIA - AUG 23, 2012
On draught @ The Lucky Shag, Barrack Street Jetty, Perth.
A little lacklustre to say the least in appearance as it produced up a lifeless and headless ruddy chestnut and not quite bright. The benefit in being value for money as the pint was filled to the brim. Complex, nutty and toasted malts on the nose was surprising hinting at fresh baked oat cookies, caramel, burnt toast and almond praline with a Burton-snatch, mineral-like edge. There is a similar ’snatch’ on the palate like kelp mixed with salted caramel as the malts again dominate. Dried fruit blend of raisins, sultanas and orange peel flourishes amongst the toffee sweet and bready, woody grains. Finish has a lined bitter malt edge before dropping off as straightlined as the palate. Body is a little thin and the mouthfeel a little awkward, but it did manage to grow on me. The rain was teeming outside the bar and the barometer was dropping yet I could still quaff a few pints more. Sessionable, but not one to rave about!

Draft at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Clear amber pour, with a light head and little lacing. Malty aroma. A typical Scottish malty ale with a nice rounded hoppy bitterness. Nice refreshing beer, but not really my favourite style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark coloured ale with a sweet and slightly roasted aroma. Not blessed with a huge amount of flavour but is crisp and more than drinkable.

Nice aroma is inviting. Nutty toffee balanced with crisp citrus and pine, floral notes. Fine clear red-brown. Frothy head is big but also gone fast leaving lacing. Taste has also crisp light hoppiness and nuanced malting. I liked particularly the elegantly flavored malting. Medium bodied, crisp, standard carbonation, oily. Nice bitterness. Balanced and fine flavors. Nice date, enjoyed the company and am definitely gonna meet again.

500ml bottle. Notes of burnt almonds, coffee and toasted barley. Dark amber in colour with a one finger head leaving lacing on the glass. A good example of your typical esb - medium hops and medium body but this one is slightly thicker with a satisfying creamy body to it. Nothing great but fairly sessionable.

Tap. Hazy dark amber color with a minimal head. Aroma of yeast and butter. Smooth texture. Medium bitter finish.
