COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Unfiltered. Bottle: Filtered.
A dark beer with a well balanced sweetness, malt and chocolate tones. Challenger, Fuggles and Cascade hops produce a rich and spicy aroma with a balanced bitterness and full-bodied flavour.

The beer dispense from the 500ml bottle an almost opaque brown with tinges of ruby at the edges, head admirable, creamy and light tan in color, stays for a while, then leaves the lace to conceal the glass. Nose has a deep rich malt sweet aroma, caramel, toffee and a bit of peat, maybe a twig of heather, quite nice, clean and crisp to the senses. Start has a sweet malt presence, touch of spiciness at the back, light to moderate in feel. Finish has a pleasant acidity, the hops understated, but adequate, sweet toffee to the dry end, quite a good drinking beer, seems I find less and less Scottish ales.

Bottle at the Dicken’s. Very tasty, well balanced. Aromas of caramel, nuts, with hints of liquorice. Taste is sweet, with bitter notes, and long length. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Amber, with a frothy head.

Bottle 50cl, a dark beer with medium head. Nose is coffee and chocolate like. Aroma is creamy on dark malt, dark chocolate and roasted coffee notes. Long roasted aftertaste, light red fruit touch, caramel and ashes notes too, more a stout than an ESB because of very less hops presence.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2012 Poured into 500ml glass. Deep copper-red colour. Thin off-white head that retains well and laces on glass. Malty aroma. Light to medium body. Low carbonation. On mouth feels smooth with a hops bite. Bitter hops finish that became less distinct as beer warmed. Overall a quite good drink.

A really nice beer; near dark amber colour, a light aroma with vague hints of of the taste character, a thin off white head and stable body, quite bitter to the taste with a coffee finish but still very flavoursome. This is, to my view, a beautiful beer, more often than not this will be in my selection if I am on a Scottish ale run! If you see it give it a shot!

Foffern (285) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAY 5, 2012
Bottle at pub. Has a clear amber colour with a small off-white head. A not very aromatic beer but I sence sweet malt, some caramel and dried fruits. The flavour is better with fudge, some wood and berries. Feels slick in the mouth, and is a bit carbonated. Light bitterness. In the end a decent ale with a nice balance.

Bottled. Golden dark with off-white head. Malty flavor. Bitter and dry finish. Fine, but not outstanding.

500 ml bottle bought at ICA Stavanger. Pours with a rich creamy head which slowly turns into lace curtains. Fruity, tempting aroma which certainle does not disappoint. Velvety mouthfeel with beautifully balanced hops, not too sweet. A very fine ale indeed and well worth the extra money.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours copper orange with a small white head, nice lacing. Nose is a little boring. Loads of caramel with a touch of orange zest and toffee. Light toffee with light citric fruits in the taste but quite one dimensional and boring. Malts seem to dominate it but had a quick finishing, bitter finish. Not bad but not typically my favourite style of beer
