3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: APR 25, 2013 Re-rating from Stockbridge Tap. This time it was really pleasant - I don’t understand why it was so bad last time. It’s a keg. On this occasion the beer was giving lovely peach notes instead of the vegetable oil previouslly found.
Previous rating on 22/01/13. 3+3+1+1+2=1
On tap @ the Stockbridge Tap. Pours golden with a little bit of head. The nose is absolutely stinking of sweetcorn and vegetable oil. The taste is similarly vegetal and although I know this is a characteristic of lager, I’m quite happy to have a note of green beans but this really did smell like cold chip fat after several batches of chips had been fried in it. It’s difficult to describe the palate but I guess it’s light bodied and not refreshing in the slightest. Overall, I can see from the other ratings that the scores are hugely variable on this, so maybe it deserves another chance but I’d rather someone else bought it and I just got a small taste.

bottle at home courtesy of the brewery.
Clean sweet malt and fresh herbal nose gives way to medium bodied floral nettle bitterness well balanced by the malt with a dry snap in the finish inviting another gulp.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Pale gold with slight head. Thin, tartish almost lemonade beer, hints of lemon but there is an acidic quality too. Not good.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Pint in the Last Post, Paisley. Aroma of orange peel. Sweet to taste with an overpowering orange kick. I won’t be having another, though it may go well with nuts or crisps.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Keg at the Pear Tree.
Foamy white head with some lacing. Clear golden body. Nose is treacly and sweet. Fruity body, little aftertaste. Medium carbonation. A fair bit of flavour for a pilsner.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Cask @ Old Mill, Brodie
Light blonde with 1 cm dense white head
Aroma of sweet malts, honey, hint of orange, malt a bit sickly, vegetables.
Sweet honey malts, citrus orange, bit buttery, wishy washy flavour.
Low carb, thin, finish much the same as the main flavour but rather dull.
Easy drinking, but the malts are a bit of a sweet mishmash and its cloying on the palate. Not great. A Pilsner? You must be joking!

2.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
[keg at Cloisters, Edinburgh] Not seen this on keg before. Furiously carbonated (although not as much as the BI Blonde), very pale golden colour. Hardly any aromas in evidence, maybe a faint gassy sweetness. Strangely perfumed flavour – sweet and oddly fruity. Tastes like a cocktail mixer

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
On keg at Cloisters. Beer coloured soda water. Pours a very light blonde colour with a thin white head. Aroma of light barley, caramel and yeast. Quite thin and highly carbonated. Caramel, mineral water and grassy hop flavours. Little sweet linger. This beer really doesn’t seem to benefit from kegging.
