Formerly called Pitch Black Black Beer
Characteristics: It shouts stout … deep colour and rich hints of chocolate and coffee yet dry enough to want another pint … an excellent beer to match with chocolate cake and seafood like bluff oysters. Can be served either chilled or at 10-15 º C for full hit of flavour.

Imperial stout flavour, session stout body. Great combination of malts and a finish that reminds you the lights will not be out at the end of the glass.......lovely drop.

From 330 ml bottle. Pours a deep black with a thin, dark tan head. Some ’legs’ on the side of the glass. Aromas of dried fruit, cocoa, vanilla and black coffee. Taste is stewed fruit followed by a roasted coffee bitterness and touches of dark chocolate toward the end and a touch of smoke. There’s a metallic note in there as well. Substantial body. Pretty good stout.

Draft. Very dark with a medium brown head. Aroma is of charred malt grains. Flavour is quite full, with a distinct liquorice note. Starts sweet, but finishes dry enough to be quite drinkable. Not very rich. Really quite good

Keg - Brew, Rotorua. A deep, opaque brown with a fine, fwding, lacing beige to light tan head that eventually end up looking flat and cola-like. Coffee, roasted malts, dried fruits, powdery chocolate and liquorice characters. Light to medium body, quite firm a mouthfeel with soft to medium carbonation and a lingering dry, malty bitterness to finish.

The head is brown and robust, the body black. It smells roasty, chocolate, bit coffee, aromatic. The taste is chocolate, bit coffee, roasty, aromatic, very nice!

From draft. Cocoa, dark chocolate, burnt popcorn, oily black patent aroma and flavor with faint lactose touches. Thin body, sweet, low bitterness, flabby texture dissolves quickly in the finish. To go with that you have notes of potato starch and sourish lactic acid in the finish. Very basic stuff, nothing at all seems to have fallen in place.

Black colour with a thinny beige head. Lots of malt, chocolates and coffe in a nice and intense aroma. Easy drink, plenty of flavour of roasted cereal, chocolate and coffe. Ligthly bitter finish.

Draft at Pom’s, courtesy of staff, thanks! Very dark maroon brown color, thin tan head. Aroma of coffee and Kahlua. Taste is bitter coffee and unsweetened cocoa. Nice.

Delicious ’skinny’ stout that is surprisingly sessionable. Comparable to other black IPA’s with a nice bitter finish.

330ml bottle from OB Sydney. Pours, er....pitch black with ample fluffy beige head and minimal lace. Decent stout-style aromas of roasty dark chocolatey malts, coffeebeans, and a trace of cherries. smoke and salty sea air. Palate is quite light bodied for the style with roasted dark malty bittersweet flavours and a trace of brine. Finishes medium bitter and quite dry. Would certainly be well matched to freshly shucked oysters.
