Pours amber/orange, white head. Aroma has plenty of Belgian funk, cloves and a hint of citrus zest.
A rich mouthfeel with a lot of clove flavour. Super estery, some orange peel gets through leading to a perfectly dry refreshing finish.
Add this to your year round bottle range! Pleeeeeease!

One of the things I love about my relatively new conversion to posh beer is learning about the weird origins of so many styles. They used to brew this beer for the peasants at harvest time and, um, this is quite nice. I’m getting some honey and mandarin on the nose, and then when I drink it there’s citrus peel that bounces tangily across the tongue and right underneath. There’s quite a lot of hops in the finish too.
Is it finished already? I reckon those Belgian peasants would have had the same response.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 beer4eternity (199) - Tauranga, NEW ZEALAND - OCT 6, 2011
330ml bottle delivered from the brewery. Aroma: big estery heavenly Belgium yeast aromas dominate. Blissful spiciness; clove, nutmeg, light cinnamon, and honey, bread dough, just mouldy tangelos, at the end some cheese, and coconut. Taste: is "sweet, kind of tart but we think you’ll like it" (though not quite like Ocean spray cranberry juice). Some notable sourness in the long finish. Palate: Lively carbonation which loses it exuberance fairly quickly, lightly syrupy sticky texture, crisp dry, slightly tart finish. Overall: started out ok and just kept on getting better as it went, ended up being delicious.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 TheRealMGD (385) - Lakewood, Washington, USA - OCT 1, 2011
Bottle as a gift. Hazy orange-gold pour with a nice white head with small bubbles and leaving heavy lace. Citrus and tropical fruit nose with a hint of funkiness. Medium body, fine and lively carbonation, yielding a creamy mouth feel. Orange, pepper, mango, light bubblegum and oaky funkiness. Finish is long and more umami, but there is an underlying sweetness from start to finish which I wasn’t expecting. I prefer drier saisons, but other than the balance, this brew from the bottom of the planet is quite special.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 mkel07 (1811) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - SEP 21, 2011
330ml bottle. Big deep head of white foam. Solid dark amber colour with summer fruit aromas of passionfruit, peach and apricot. Full flavoured and dances across the tongue. Mango citrus in the mouth with a smooth velvet silky finish. One of the better saisons I have had.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jimthechap (800) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - AUG 26, 2011
I doubt I’ve ever seen a beer as clear as this one. Full orange gold with a white head that is transient, leaving a film across the top of the beer. Aromas of hay and orange sherbert, a touch of citrus grassiness. Similar to authentic Saisons I’ve had. Full, prickly carbonation and an orange juicy quality that spreads across the palate. The finish is medium-short, but leaves you in need of another quenching slurp from the glass, which is about as good a recommendation as you can give for a golden beer. This is a bloody good effort from the brewer.

Orangey body with very short head. Nose of very ripe oranges along with bubblegum. Dry taste, light spice, light to medium body, drinkable though doesn’t turn me on.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 jonno (1457) - JAPAN - JUN 25, 2011
After a great run of beers exceeding my expectations, this was a real let down. Came across as a caricature of a good Saison, with many of the eccentricities extenuated in an almost comical way. Amazing looking beer though. A real treat to look at. Lots of bubblegum and fruity tootiness immediately overwhelm all the senses. A slightly sticky body with an explosion of sweet flavours that wears it’s welcome out quickly. Short finish with a ton of residual sweetness. Not a patch on the real thing, though I can see the charm in a over exuberant playful kind of way.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 maneliquor (1191) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUN 21, 2011
Bottle from Mane Liquor. This is a fantastic saison. Pours quite clear for a saison. Clear orange with a small, fluffy white head. Nose brings out zesty orange, lemon, light hops and yeast. Lots of citrus and zest in the taste, slight sour funk coming through which is very nice. Soft carbonation adds to a great mouth feel. Loved it. Best invercargill so far
