COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Some 21 years ago, Ipswich dark Ale rolled off our bottling line and became a cult favorite. To mark Ipswich Ale Brewery’s 21st anniversary, we took the same ingredients as our classic Dark and transformed them into this intense yet smooth Imperial Dark Ale. Big Rich, and all-grown-up, this beer features a complex malt character and subtle strength. Now that we’re 21, we offer a toast to us and those who like us!

Bottle shared by DrSilverworm. Pours a dark caramel brown with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, a touch of roast, some dark fruit and a candy like quality. Always nice to try something new, but this is just ok.

22oz bottle, thanks to radarsock. Shared with the local group. Brown / red color. Thin off-white head. Solid lace. Fruity, candy sugar kind of jolly rancher type flavor. Bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Lots of dots of lace. Pretty sweet taste. Cola, light dark fruit, light spiciness. Lightly tart. OK, but not what I was looking for.. A little too malty and rich.

Bottle shared by Dr Silverworm. Poured hazy dark brown with a moderate frothy tan head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt, dark fruit with a small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy complex sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Solid beer.

Bomber to snifter (thanks DrSilverworm). Looks good for the style; a cloudy brown with sticky off-white lacing. Smells sweet and boozy with some dark fruit notes. Tastes like it smells, but smoother than I expected. Good beer.

Dark toasty/roasted malts, slight chocolate aroma/taste, seems like a bit of rye too. Nice hops counterbalance. Dark fruit in the nose and mouth as well. Very good.

Bomber. Pours a dark amber with a slight tan head and minimal lacing. Dark fruits, caramel, roasted nuts. All kinds of malty goodness going on here. Very little alcohol taste yet I can certainly feel the higher ABV. One of the better strong ales I have had.

Pours deep mahogany into a Sam glass. Mocha head pancakes as it recedes leaving spider lacing. Sweet roasted nuts and toffee aromas. Thick with dark caramel, toffee and bittersweet chocolate upfront turning slightly hot in the lasting toasted bitter earth finish.
