12 oz bottle - Pours a medium brown color with a reddish tint, and a decent off white head. Aroma is a solid mix of candied sugar, nutty malts, caramel and fruity hops. Taste is roasted malt which is very nicely balanced by a hoppy bitterness. Suprised, and pleased, by the hoppy bitter finish. I liked this one quite a bit.

Pours a dark dark brown with a small tan head that dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma gives off a lot of citrus hops as well as malty molasses. Taste is a roasted malt with a strong hop bitterness that flows through the finish. Good beer!

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark oblique brown. Small white head, little lace. Lively carbonation. Full of sediment that you can just barely make out through the murkiness. . Flavor is lightly sweet and light to medium bitter. Tastes of malt, roast, hops, resin, light nuts, slight rye, and a hint of chocolate. This brew has a level of complexity. And as a whole, Ipswich is a fine brewery!

12 oz bottle. Pours a very dark woody brown with a thin lasting off white head. Aroma is nutty, with hints of roast and light chocolate- a bit dusty, very low on the herbal grassy hops. Flavor is nutty, earthy, good chocolate and toasted malts, light roast- clean grassy herbal hops in the end. Seemed almost a cross between a dunkel and a brown ale- smooth and clean in the end.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jgb9348 (3966) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - SEP 29, 2011
Deep dark brown coloured body, a touch muddy at the bottom with a very thick, three centimetre tall tan head that leaves a nice lace. Aroma of very light earthy hops, a nice toasted malt note, some brown sugar, raisins and a touch of light spices. Medium-bodied; Nice mix of fresh, but low alpha acid hops with a good robust malt, complete with an earthiness behind and a little sugar, as well as a touch of alcohol. Aftertaste shows some more complex and well-rounded tastes, showing mostly earth, malt and a faint hop bitterness. Overall, a nicely and well-done brown that shows good characteristics and a non-obtrusive finish. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Wegman’s in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on 22-July-2011 sampled at home in Washington on 29-September-2011.
