The spiciness of rye introduces our smooth new twist on a classic porter. Lush with dark chocolate aroma, Ipswich Rye Porter is a lively seasonal treat.

Pours a deep, rich sable with a thick and rather persistent tan head. Aroma has smoky and rye notes and earthy and molasses hints. Flavor fills the mouth with roast rye, semi-sweet chocolate, coffee, earthy and molasses notes, slightly sweet, a hint of hay. Texture has good body, though it sometimes seems a wee bit thin, and has some good fizz. A satisfying and rugged porter.

22oz bottle. Bottled on 10/24/2012. Black pour, thick beige foam. Huge aroma of chocolate. Chocolate malt, some spiciness in the nose. Chalky flavor, huge roast, burnt grains, Italian coffee, licorice. As big as a Stout. Finishes with a bold, burnt malt backbone, dry, with a light spicy tingle. Overall, SPICY RYE MOCHA. (3632)

New brewery to me and apparently a relatively new beer to the world with only 7 rates. I do like how the rye spiciness complements the porter smooth and chocolate notes. Nice chocolate aroma. Relatively bigger flavor and body than many porters I know. Pretty nice for a cool winter evening.

I love it when I crack open a bottle and the aroma just billows out, such as this beer. Chocolate and coffee in both nose and taste. Dark with creamy tan had. Silky mouth feel. Very good porter.

12oz into a stemmed boulevard glass. Pours a mild choco with some magic marker. Head fizzles quick to a ring round the glass. Islands appear. Taste is malty, dark choco, dry, bitter, the rye doesnt fully come into play until the resulting aftertaste after a few endulgements. Rye ipa aspects do play a role in the aroma as times continues. A nice full bodied brew with substantial porter like contributions, but also along the dark lager lines, which is a nice winter treat. Good brew.

12 oz bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a one finger mocha colored head. Bits and pieces of spotty lace. Rich smelling chocalate aroma with a hint of rye bread. Some fruity scents as well. Sweet taste with the rye giving it a bitter twist. Interesting combo. Slightly above medium palate with a bitter finish.

Pours black into a Sam glass. Mocha conglomerate head with good retention recedes to coat surface. Sweet rye and dark chocolate aromas. Medium bodied with sweet chocolate turning to peppery rye before the lasting espresso finish.
