Light but overwhelmingly "something." Some hops, corn, chemicals. Doesn’t finish or taste clean. Hard to get down.
But it’s local and its legend.
And it has a mystique.
I’ve visited Pittsburgh many times and most tavern-goers are very loyal to it. If you are drinking it in that great city it tastes like mother’s milk.

Clear golden pour with a touch of red, large lasting head. Hops and slight sweetness in the scent. More taste then expected but still grainy and watery. An average generic ’beer’

three quarts for a buck, 1963 "heaven" the aroma was stale, you could gag it down, and as far as the appearance went you never saw the stuff because, as everyone knew you had to drink it out of the bottle. i can’t buy it here but if i could i wouldn’t.

OK ... remember what this is ... a Pittsburgh Bud, even a Pittsbrugh Coors. As such, it’s not bad, and even in the 1970s my friends always preferred this to Coors in a blind taste test. A little thin in the mouth, not much malt, maybe some Bud-ish cost cutting corn. But at least it has some bitterness. I can drink this if I have to ... although the last one was almost 30 years ago, and the next one may be 30 years from now.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2006 So I forgot to put this in after the Superbowl, when we decided to drink a Pittsburgh beer to cheer on the Steelers. I will say that the evening was not highlighted by the beer, but that the team seemed to do something noteworthy every time one of these was opened. It kind of became a double-dog-dare-you type of eveing with these baddies, but the Steelers did pull it off... Couldn’t figure out how to put that in my ranking, so I didn’t. Basically a mediocre corn beer. Looks like a corn beer, smells like a corn beer, bubbles like a corn beer, tastes like a corn beer. There is a decidedly unpleasant aftertaste that really made it tough to love. A little bit of the skunky taste was present in each and every can. Not recommended... unless the Steelers make the Superbowl again and you think that your drink selection might have some influence on the outcome of the game.

Pours a light golden yellow. Aromas of minor hops, corn, grains. Flavor is light, crisp, watery with a little hop and not much else.

Not a bad beer. Beats Bud and Coors with a nice flavor with some bitterness. Great for summer and watching the game with your pals.
