3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Mirage52 (147) - New Market, Maryland, USA - FEB 7, 2006
This must be Pittsburgh’s Natty Boh. I had this from a bottle in Deep Creek Lake, MD. Not bad, but nothing extraordinary. Scant flavors, nothing offensive and nothing rewarding. Very smooth and carbonated, and easily better than anything the big 3 puts out.
The high score comes from me expecting it to taste like garbage and being a Ravens fan, exepecting to hate anything made in Pittsburgh. I’ll drink it again when I’m in the area, hopefully while celebrating a Ravens victory at Heinz Field.

This beer was drank specificly for the super bowl. It was a very boring beer. Flavorless and simple. I won’t ever buy it again - for any reason
1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 pintbypint (1481) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - FEB 6, 2006
355ml alum. bottle. Gold colour, poor head retention, a few tiny bubbles stuck to the edge of the glass then totally vanished. Aroma was corny, a little grain. Very light in the flavour dept, weak citrus note, thin malt and corn. Thin body, average carboantion. Corny grainy clinging aftertaste. Not sure why the LCBO bothered to get this one.

I think The BeerOrg said it best with " If I’m drinking PA swill, it’s at least going to be a Yuengling." Very True. Iron City for me is sort of like Blatz. Watery corn beer with a sour aftertaste and nothing positive other than the kitchiness of it all.

Enjoyed during the AFC championshop game. Had a caramelly flavor that I thought was actually a nice change for pale lager. If you are swilling. Iron City will do in a pinch. Has sort of a cult following for the transplanted Pittsburgers here in KC. I’d choose it over some.
0.5 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20 Walsar (3) - Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 25, 2006 does not count
Picked up a 30 pack as a novelty for the upcoming super bowl.
Sampled two this evening.
Not bad but not good.
Heavy carbonation - tough aftertaste. A beer that you need to keep drinking to mask the aftertaste.
Puts me in mind of Blatz Beer from the late 1970’s so I guess there is a nostalgia factor - if you want to reflect back on drinking in the woods.

Pours light clear golden with a fully receding white head. Aroma of corn, cereal malts, cider, DMS. Taste is bland, mostly unoffensive, still bad. Mouthfeel is thin and watery. If I’m drinking PA swill, it’s at least going to be a Yuengling. .

Being a Pittsburgh native, I felt the need to give my two cents...
Ok, yes Iron City holds no great complexity nor does it leave much on the palate. But, this is the beer that I think of in its simplest terms as if were served in a white can with black font that just had "BEER" written on it. The taste of the beer is what I think Homer Simpson tastes when he puts backa Duff and the reason all those people are smiling in marco beer commercials. Sorry, that was a bit overly sentimental...but us yinzers have an extraordinary amount of pride for things from our city...even if that happens to be crap beer.
