Typical cheap retro lager flavor, appearance, aroma and palate. Sad that this is what was dealt to the masses back in the day. Nothing to distinguish itself from Pabst, Schmidt, Hamms etc. Light golden appearance, tinny taste and aroma. No real malt or hop presence. Can imagine myself hoisting a few of these after shucking steeel though, would not want flavor to get in the way of quenching the thirst! Glad to see that the name was kept around.

(355 aluminum BOTTLE) Purchased at the LCBO in Ottawa, ON. Pours a highly carbonated, deep golden body with a quick dissipating, white head. Nose is full-on TIN - like the bottle. A very syrupy sweet and corn flavour. Finishes somewhat clean. The nose is such a turn-off though...

I bought this beer thinking that it probably was not very good. I was proven correct.

Appearance: Pours a clear, yellow body with a wispy, white head. Smell: Grainy, slightly sweetish, cereal aroma with one single drop of lemon. Taste: Cereal, corn fleck taste. Medium sweetness. Faintest floral hops and bitterness. More of the same till the finish. Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: So-so. Much to my surprise, I found I.C Light to be, okay, maybe not better, but more tolerable.

Bottle. Pours a clear, apple juice-gold with a bare, white head. Ligt malt, corn and apple aroma. Swee flavor with faint dough and some light fruits. Light to medium in body with fizzy carbonation. Crisp and sharp in the finish, with some lingering apple notes. Light dryness. Not bad.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2006 In the bottle at Green Life Grocery, Asheville, NC. I was so psyched to score IC on my NC trip TC (This Christmas). I was first introduced to Iron City and its horror-child counterpart, IC Light, when I would roadtrip to Pittsburgh to watch my beloved Reds kick some Buc at Three Rivers. Sometimes you just have to wax nostalgic about an old friend. I was once so crunked on this stuff by the 9th Inning that I almost forgot to yell obsenities at Barry Bonds. Iron City is Pittsburgh. She ain’t too pretty, but she sure can count. UPDATE: 1/25/6 Just had my first Iron City from the "Canottle." The packaging is now way better than the beer. No one at the table could dent this can it was so thick. Iron City is still pale yellow, still grainy and watery, still light, still benign. PLAY BALL!

2005 new aluminum bottle from Julio’s consumed on 7/1/2005. Finally! I’ve waited so long for Iron City to be distributed in Boston. I’m so excited!. . . . er, wait, no, no I’m not. Ahem, the beer pours with a cornfield yellow body, huge bubbles rapidly rising within. Fizzy head to ring, no lacing. Very clear. In the nose I get a bit of apricot, corn meal and shortcake. Light lager yeast as well. Flavor has more bready shortcake, light pale malts and a touch of sourness on the end. Decent body, at least, with malt sweetness not drowned to death in water. The huge bubbles give a very aerated, not sharp, feel to the palate. Some slight bitterness on the end, not really enough to figure out what it is. I assume it is some attempt at hops. Very light, lots of water in the beer, though it’s not really that thin. Some breadiness lingers, a touch of fruit and sugar. Clean, drinkable when chilled. Now if we could only get some Yuengling out here. . .

5/9/11. 12oz bottle. Clear golden color with a small off-white head. Sweet aroma of corn and green apples. Even sweeter flavor like milk-soaked corn flakes floating in apple juice. Meh.
