Being a Pittsburgh native, I felt the need to give my two cents...
Ok, yes Iron City holds no great complexity nor does it leave much on the palate. But, this is the beer that I think of in its simplest terms as if were served in a white can with black font that just had "BEER" written on it. The taste of the beer is what I think Homer Simpson tastes when he puts backa Duff and the reason all those people are smiling in marco beer commercials. Sorry, that was a bit overly sentimental...but us yinzers have an extraordinary amount of pride for things from our city...even if that happens to be crap beer.

(bottle 6/15/11). Clear gold color. Medium white head, which is mostly diminishing. Moderate biscuit malt aroma and flavor. Avg duration. Dry finish. Thin texture. Moderate carbonation. Spare lacing.

Pretty poor lager. Being from Pittsburgh originally, I’d like to support Iron City, but it’s just not that good. It’s a liite over carbonated, a little light on flavor/complexitity, a little sweet, a bit astringent, and overall a bit dissapointing. Better then Bud/Coors/Miller light, but not as good as Yuengling or (I C Brewings’s own) Augistiner.

A Pittsburgh tradition. Synopsis with Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. This brewery started many “firsts” in the beer industry. For example, snap top can, draught beer in a can, they used local sports teams on the beer cans, first light beer (Mark V), aluminum bottle, reseal able cap on bottle, and first malt (Hop-n-Gator). Not bad. The beer is not bad either. Try one!

I think you have to have grown up on this stuff to have a real appreciation for it. Certainly not my everyday beer, but when I’m back in the ’Burgh for a Steelers or Pens game, I’m going to Pump an Arn!
